  • Second row fridge mount

Im curious if anybody has managed to fit a fridge into the second row of their Prado?

I dont pick my vehicle up till December, so I am assuming it is a 40/60 second row seating arrangement. Has anyone thought of or tried to fit a fridge by removing the 60 section of the second row and installing a fridge?

I have noticed Blackwidow do a shelf system for the second row with tie downs but I was thinking more of mounting it to the existing seat mountings.

    Hoppy thats we have ours.
At the moment its only attached to a piece of marine ply to stop rolling around. when we head off for abig trip will will pull out the 60 section and mount it there.
The lid opens all the way with no problemand the fridge is nice and low so its easy to get things out off (ie beer).

I was thinking of placing my fridge there as well. I have a shelf built up on the wheel wells, so there is no way for it to fit except for the rear "40".

Post pics when done. I won't be doing mine until about January in anticipation for a March expedition.

          Thanks Hutch.

I did a search before posting and couldnt find anything!
It gives me an idea of what it would look like but it might interfer with the luggage barrier in that position. I think I would prefer it mounted east/west on the 60 section of the second row. I will keep looking.

I had a guy fabricate a shelf for my Waeco 50l that fits where the single seat mounts. It hooks onto the back seat mounts and bolts to the lower front seat mounts. I have had it for a couple of years. It takes a few minutes to fit. There is enough room to place three 20l plastic jerry cans of water in the footwell. It fits infront of the rear storage draws and cargo barrier. Worked perfectly on our Canning Stock route trip this year.

I have been thinking about making something similar when i get a fridge next year. If its not that hard to make, then i will knock one up at work.

before i went on my trip i unbolted the 2nd set of seats and used the seat bolt holes. i bent up some 40mm by 3mm flat bar x4 and used this to secure a piece of 12mm MDF i covered in marine carpet. i also bent up some brackets to secure the rear of the shelf to my cargo barrier. i had enough room underneath to store 6packs of beer, recovery gear etc. i also ran some 40mm angle down the length of the shelf to make it really rigid ( held my weight easily and i'm 100kg). where i secured the angle to my flat bar brackets i used stainless eye bolts so could chuck to ratchet straps over boxes i carried on top of the shelf.
