Re: Second row fridge mount
I removed the smaller (left side) 2nd row seat & used the top 14mm bolts to hold in a platform I made up for the Slide Lock for my 40l Engel.
Materials:
- 600x380mm 12mm plywood.
- 2x 40x40mm 2.5mm aluminium U-channel each 50-60mm long. I picked up an offcut @ Capral Aluminiun.
- Engel Slidelock.
- 2x 150mm cable ties.
- 4x 25mm Philips head 8g self-tapper screws.
tools:
- Drill & drill bits: 12mm, 7mm, 3mm
- 14mm socket & open ender spanners.
- Philips head screwdriver(s).
You will need to measure up where your fridge needs to sit in relation to any rear seat passenger(s), How far the lid opens, & how far back you can place it. I have a cargo barrier which limited the rearward placement.
Line up the bolt holes & measure up placement on the underside of the 12mm ply. Have the open side of the U-channel towards the door - easier to access bolts. Offset the screws holding the u-channel to the ply, so as give access to the bolts with a socket spanner.
Use the front bolts to hold the base in.
Cable ties through the base around the 2 bars which the seat locks onto.
Screw on the Slide Lock. Keeping the Slidelock as close to the door as possible, so if I needed to get 2 people in the back set, they would not be hard up against the fridge.
I also took the top grab handle off as it stopped the fridge lid from going all the way back (by about 3mm) & falling back down on your head, arm, etc.
With the 40mm U-channel, this kept the fridge fairly level & gave you easy access to the bolts.
This work very well for a trip across the Simpson Desert (French Line) & further touring around Alice Springs, East Macdonnell's, Merrenie Loop, Palm Valley & Flinders Ranges.
