• Upgrade exhaust for petrol 120

Hello prado pointers would love some feed back from anyone who has upgraded the exhaust on their petrol 120. If so what did they go with and were there any fuel economy improvements

    Gday Brendo
Not sure how much of a difference the exhaust alone will make. Ive have just done Twin two and a quarter into single two and half attached to Pacemaker headers and Hi flow cats and pretty much straight through mufflers. No Drone at all but very loud when flat out. The real kicker is that i also banged a TRD blower on top. Hasnt done a lot for actual kw at the wheels maybe around 30 extra but torque has doubled. The car is now ridiculously economical. Freeway cruising around 10.5l per 100 and
eve driving it like i stole it im getting around 12.5L per hundred kilometres. Hope this helps a little but i really think that its all that extra torque that is really making the difference.
    Good Luck

I've just fitted Pacemaker headers and 2.5" exhaust. No rear resonator and a performance muffler but retained the original cats. I have also replaced the Y piece with custom. Too soon to tell what the fuel figures are but I don't think it has made a huge difference. Heaps more responsiveness to throttle which I'm very happy with though.

I've been running on 91 but talking to teztinkV6Prado who has the same setup (apart from the replacement Y piece) and he gets considerably better fuel economy running on 98 so I'm going to change over and see how that goes.

Well boyz all said and done , price was fantastic, dropped in for a squiz, during the day and was pleased to see the fender work mats over the
guards, etc and very happy with they professionalism of the boss, and the quality of the whole job

if there are no teething drama's very happy.. the response on the pedal feel is easily 20% better and the manager even said it would be interesting to see how much it chops down the fuel burn/mileage.

I follow the every tank so i gave her a big drink of 98 afterwards reset the odo. and will track the numbers

The sound of the system is slightly louder ( at idle with the window down at lights , cant hear it running ) , but nice to my ears , and pulls harder with less right boot... ( definitely hear it with a bit of revs tho )
Very impressive, sorry bout all the photos but i love my pictures.. Cheers boyz.. Butane

price $998, pacies, 2.5" system, original cats re used
..lets take her out for a spin... butane

Where in the Gong did you get it done? How is the fuel consumption going?

Very nice Butane, looks like they did a great job. How do you find the sound level and droning? I did a very similar exhaust on mine but had nothing but problems with it droning around 2-3000 rpm. I ended up putting the factory muffler back in after trying several different aftermarket mufflers.

Did you add a small muffler, or resonator, just before the end of the pipe? Similar to what is in Butane's last photo. It stops the drone in my 150 exhaust.

Hi Yowie, yes I ran the factory rear resonator I also had two smaller "boomer" mufflers just after each high flow cat converter. They all helped but not to an acceptable level. I can't remember the brand of main muffler I used but it was a large straight through design. Since putting the factory main muffler back in the sound is very quiet. There was a slight power drop however.

With my 150, I had the exhaust replaced from the Y-piece to the rear (only a small section of Y-piece on mine)

My main muffler is still oval shaped, but about one-third the volume of the original size, with a small resonator near the rear.

The missus does not like the noise too much (rarely drive with the windows open), not too bad at low speed, quite a bit of noise under hard acceleration, but not raspy noise (music up a bit so cannot hear too much noise outside)

Acceleration is a bit more responsive, especially when overtaking at highway speed. Use 95 RON.

Just picked up my 120 v6 from newcastle mufflers . I already had extractors . Peter cut 2 of the 4 cats out and replace the pipe with a longer y piece to a higher flow muffler and standard rear . Car is a little louder then I wanted but the power is way better . I'll report in the fuel when I get back at the end of the month towing the Jayco swan around
