  • Installing keyless go in a 120 Prado

    Hi ladies and gentlemen,

I have just bought a 2006 Prado 120 and I am looking into installing a keyless go system. Has anyone done this, and did you find a high quality system?
I am only finding alibaba type stuff.

Also, I have heard you have some amazing shops in Australia for upgrades. I am looking for internal upgrades, switches and stuff. Any tips?

    Cheers,
    Fred

I realise this is an old thread, and you have either come up with a solution or abandoned this, but...

I upgraded my 2008 Prado Standard (aka GX I think) to keyless a few years back. Mine came with central locking, but not keyless (no remotes). I reasoned that pretty much everything must be there in the wiring, and the doors all had the required electro-mechanical actuators already. All that was missing was the little radio receiver that lives above the left rear window. I pulled the lining away, and as suspected, there was a socket in the wiring harness for the receiver, and a bracket to bolt it to. I found a second-hand receiver online, somewhere in Queensland I believe. It bolted in and plugged in perfectly fine. Then I bought an after-market key blank with built-in remote on Ebay, and it came with notes describing the procedure for programming the car to accept it. I could have had it cut to match, and programmed the car to accept it as the starting key too, but decided to keep the original ones, and just cut the key shaft off the new one to make it a remote only. All works beautifully, it's a genuine Toyota receiver, and only cost me about $120 all up. If anyone attempts this, you need to be aware that 2 different remote/receiver systems were used on the 120 series - one operates at 422MHz, and one at 304MHz. So you must make sure that the remote(s) you acquire work at the same frequency. My receiver is a 304MHz, so that's the remote I had to look for.
