  • Compresser reset

    Hi all 1st time poster
I have the same air bag issue as everyone else. Car riding on bump stops.
Dropped off at opposite lock for inspection and they say the compressor is not working.
Vehicle Details. 2008 Toyota Prado 120 Grande 3lt diesel.
Airbag suspension in rear not inflating.
    Vehicle riding on bump stops.
Inspection carried out, factory airbags not inflating and are in poor condition.
(No error codes in ECU), unable to activate auto compressor.
    Airbags inoperative,
    possible causes:
Faulty compressor, angle sensor or ECU.
(Given the compressor is not working is there a process to reset the compressor? That will not harm to the car I've read on here the 4-13 short but as its a 3lt diesel probly not a great idea to try.
    (No error codes given).
Also thinking of just doing the upgrade to tough dog but they tell me I should install an after market compressor. This I don't want would like to keep the factory extras. Prices getting out of hand. $1300 just for a new compressor and I am thinking it might not be ruined.
Any advice would be appreciated Thanks.

The compressor has a delay that gets longer and longer every time it detects an inflation fault.

How did OL determine that the compressor is not working? Did they apply power directly at the compressor?

Thanks for getting back to me appreciate it.
No they said there was power there and it was not running.
Not sure how this came about as the H-N-L is not working therefore would not be putting power to the compressor. Right?
(Just sitting in N and can not get it to move).
They have said I need new bags and when they install this might get the compressor working.
(Just sounds a bit like there poking around in the dark).

Sounds like they don't know what they are doing.

How did they check error codes. Some code readers won't read all codes from a car. Even my spare snap-on code reader doesn't read suspension codes.

The compressor shuts down for 10 mins. Then up to 70 mins.
I thought mine was stuffed and left it for 90 mins, cleared codes and away it went.

I'd look at the ironman group buy here. Get a couple new airbags off partsouq or amayama and away you go.

Thanks piggy , I tried leaving battery off and fuses out for well over 1hour well before I took it to shop no good. Was hoping there was a possible fix I could let them know of. Seems like you might be right if they can not find fix for compressor or error codes look else where. Is there anyone in Melbourne that is experienced with these type of suspension issues you could recommend?

Is it sitting on bumpstops at the moment?

Given the age of the Prado, the rubber would likely be perishing and causing a leak. You should inspect the bags for tears, particularly the driver's side.

Yes its on the bump stops
Yes I've had a look at the airbags and there are cracks and they do need replacing so will be doing this.
(Firestone from airbag man) for the lift.
Just really want the compressor to be OK car still at OL so cant do much till I hear from them will call them tomorrow about were to go from here.
Looked at Piggys suggestion ironman group buy here. Ill see how I go. But looks fair (Is there somewhere in Melbourne that do the installations?)
Is there a specific way to read suspension codes or a special reader needed?
Is there another way to reset the error codes.

A code reader. If the compressor is in any type of fault it will throw a code. There is about 8 different codes for the compressor system alone.
I had to reset mine before I could get it to start up again.

If a bag has a leak and the pump runs for longer than 2 minutes it goes into a fault.
It will reset after ten minutes.
If still in fault it shuts down for 70 minutes. Etc.

I'd suggest get yourself some new bags if they are torn.
You could remove the bags and inflate them lightly from another compressor to look for leaks. Or it can be done on the car.
