  • Ball joint replacement

    I need to replace both lower ball joints on my 120, discovered after recently fitting a set of Whitey's re-valved Ironmans - which are fantastic so far and currently being tested out up in the Snowy's back tracks. Should I go OEM given the current lift (290mm at front). Or would aftermarket be OK? Any advice on fitting myself? Can't find anything in this thread. Cheers

    Original or Japanese 555 brand is all I would use personally. Check on Ebuy, I think there is someone selling 555.

    cheers

      Hey Ivan,

      Here is an old how to guide from IH8MUD, unfortunately many of the photos are missing;

      https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/07-...h-pics.765756/

      Here is a scary youtube video;

      Moog ball joints aren't what they used to be, and if you pursue the ball joint option I agree with Steve that 555 is the best option.

      I would say that if your lower arm ball joints are cactus, then your lower arm bushes have also probably seen better days, and as such I think this is your simplest option;

      http://www.pradopoint.com.au/showthr...lcrum-Superpro

      I know this new arm from Fulcrum/Superpro is not yet in their online catalogue, but I would give the shop manager Des at the Fairfield Rd shop in Yeerongpilly a call on (07) 38485644 and discuss price and availability!

        I read somewhere on here that the aftermarket joints dont have the same amount of articulation as genuine. Not sure if this was for upper or lower joints.

          Thanks Mark and t303. Good info. Vehicle has done 340k's and been 'reliable as' over a number of large central OZ desert trips etc. Its the sort of maintenance that needs to be done at this time of life.
          Won a complete set of Superpro bushes a few years back so may as well use them. At the moment the LH ball joint has a small amount of movement (will replace both) and the lower RH control arm has the front bush seized restricting a good realignment after the new Ironmans' install.

          Be buggered stuffing around so much - looks around to be 5 to 6 hours hard yakka with no press available and lacking tools. The option I'll chase is to use my bushes, get the 555 b/joints and to chase up LCA';s if their available. Fulcrum Superpro might even assemble for me!

            New LCA's released for 120

            Hi Mark,
            Superpro/Fulcrum have just released complete LCA's for the 120. Two versions - standard and lifted. Any thoughts on the lifted version (off-camber) for my 120 and your ironmans? Cheers Ivan
