Re: Tyre Rotation - which is the correct method?

Dealership I attended said they only rotate the wheels on the ground front to back, not side to side, and don't include the spare. Said the steel belts in the tyres don't take kindly to being swapped side to side and predispose to shudders and wobbles.
I rotate all 5 as per the handbook, and no shudders or wobbles.
But then I run Bridgestone D694's and not the Grandcraps.

Re: Tyre Rotation - which is the correct method?

As has been identified there is a specific rotation method in your log-book for five tyres. Not using the spare is a waste of money.

If you run six as we do then it is even easier. Two come off the front and go in the garage, the rears move forward and the two that were resting in the garage go on the rears. As we rotate every 5000km and that distance is travelled on average every 2-3 months then we are getting good wear rates and cycling those expensive tyres across the car appropriately

Done nearly 18000 km's and have been rotating tyres as per manual including spare and after inspecting the tyres, all appears good. Travelled to Melb and back with speeds of 130km approx (NT) with nil wobbles shakes etc.

By rotating frequently and incorpoarting the spare you don't get problems with tyre "memory".

I got 10 wheels and tyres for my Prado so I have to really think hard!

I take the lazy way out and just swap the spare onto one of the corners every 5000km. ( different corner each time ).
I haven't worked out this sicentifically ops: but the wear seems consistent on all 5.
