What is the biggest offset you can run on 2005 120 series Prado?

Hi Guys,

I have fitted some 32'" Bridgestone Duller's M/T on my Prado with 16" steel rims which are -12 offset. I have got them on with minor adjustment on the front to the bull bar (Grinder) and they drive on the road fine. I have also fitted a 2" dobinsons lift on it.

Before I go and take them on some tracks is there any reason why they cannot be run? The calliper on front is around 2mm clearance which should not see any problems unless a rock becomes lodged etc.

I guess what I am asking is what is the maximum offset I can run without chewing the car apart?

Firstly, 16" wheels aren't supposed to fit over the front calipers of a 120 series without modifying them with a grinder, which is not on. I guess the deep offset of those wheels may have solved this issue but the resulting increase in track introduces other reliability problems as well as legality.

Increasing track by 50mm is the maximum for 4wds in NSW now, which is a maximum offset of +5 for a 120 series, some people have pushed it to a zero offset but -12 seems excessive. That's an increase in track of 84mm, I would expect CVs and bearings to be under more stress. Who knows how long you'll get away with it, but eventually something will give. I can't tell where the tyres sit in relation to the bodywork, bit if you flex it up on the tracks you might lose the rear flares first.

FYI, you can actually run a 285/70/17 tyre with an offset of between +6 to +10 on a 120 series.

A genuine 2" (50-60mm) lift with DC Torque 17x8.5 +6 offset wheels and Pirelli Scorpion MTR 285/70R17 LT tyres, diff drop and extended sway bar links.
