Roo, I never said it wasn't real but the same thing/ conversation was going on back in 2007 when I brought the 120 which made me nervous about getting an ARB bar so got the toyota bar as every one was beating it up. My point was most of us will never experience issue as we don't travel in such extreme conditions long enough to cause an issue.

I would be interested to know if the 150 steel bars are as heavy as the 120 bars.My 150 build - http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread.php?27423-A-Random-approach-to-a-Bluestorm-150-GXL-D4D-automatic

That is interesting as my dealer has a FJ, his personal car with a ECB bar. It has nothing to do with the Prado though.Rob

Off track slightly I know but isn't there a load limit for the roof as far as combined roof rack and load is concerned? What about limits for rear steel bar and swing away tyre carriers?Dave

The Toyota bar is nothing more than a piece of aluminum polished and bent to match the lines of the bumper bar, of u want alloy best get the TJM alloy bar at least it has some structural quality and looks great.

Ive seen the results of a big red hitting the dead centre of the soverign bar (spelling) and yes it looked like the bar had ran into a telegraph pole dead centre but the vehicle was still drivable, without bar would have pushed through the centre of the radiator support panel and left the vehicle stranded I reckon, definately not as strong as a steel bar (last 3 4wd's had steel ARB bars) but better then nothing and I would say alot better then just a nudge bar and agree with Hutch, not as strong as a TJM alloy bar but I really dont need the extra weight on this one... Time will tell wether these FJ's should have them fitted or not but they have been on them in the states for a while now and havnt seen any reported issues with them running steel bars which are well over the 20kg......Cheers steveFace lift 150 Prado V6 auto. Hi there Hutch, i rang my mate today but he doesnt have the photo's any more but I come across this today on PP after I rang him as he said he posted pics on another forum he uses but the pictures had gone. I sent him this one to have a peek at compared to his, The damage done was very much the same as this one except he said it was bent a bit more on the top part. He said he did have to bypass his transmission cooler which he said was mounted on the passengers side behind the bullbar, his driving lights were RS and snapped the grill he told me today, was an insurance job. he said maybe there were things behind he didnt know about but after bypassing the cooler was still able to continue. I thought he even got towed but no drove it home......Not bad considering the speed which he said he was only doing around 95/possibly 100 but he does now have a steel bar on and I just rang him to double check on airbags and he said neither of them deployed if they had it would have stopped dead so Id say he must have been extremely close to the bag/bags going off.......... Cheers Steve
