  • Anyone fitted a smart bar to the current facelift Prado.

    Hello,
I know that there are very few fans of smartbar bullbars but my wife is a fan of them. What I cannot find is any pictures of one fitted to the current shape.
Has anyone got one fitted and can share a pic.
    Thanks

Hi wv1. I just did a quick google search "prado 150 smart bar". Came up with heaps of pics with different colours. Never seen one in the flesh but we use them at work and they are OK it seems.

Previously a 2004 120s 1KZ GX silver manual with stuff
before that a 1996 RV6 90S with lots of gear

I've seen one post-face-lift in white, have to admit, it looks pretty good. That said, I've heard stories saying that they protect roos more than your car, but that could just be heresay.

I thought these were a great idea till I saw one on a 150 I was looking to buy. it was 3 years old but the bar looked like it was 100! UV seems to kill them it would appear?

              Hi wv1,
We put one on our 2010 shorty 6 months ago and are very happy with it. Saying that it has not really been tested. Unfortunately we have only hit a bustard (on the endangered list) which bounced off but left a terrible smell behind. What sold us on the Smartbar was the lightness, safety to pedestrians and we had been told an ambulance hit 17 roos to and from a job out west Qld with no damage to the vehicle.
              Hope that helps
              Rob

                Hello Rob,
Did you fit it yourself or get it fitted. I have the fitting instructions. Just worried about trimming the bumper and how accurate that needs to be. Reason thinking of fitting was Toyota did a crap job on my previous 120 Prado.

                Thanks

                  Hi ,
We purchased it fitted by Opposite Lock. Looking at it, I think it would be a bugger of a job to do and would rather leave it to those who know. I reckon it would pay to ask how many Smart Bars the operator has fitted to 150's. I asked mine and they showed me one they had just done on a Mazda and informed me that they had fitted over a dozen on 150's. That made me feel much better. Not sure if it made much difference, but before they fitted it, I told them I was a fussy bugger wanted a really neat install and I am happy with the job they did.
                  Regards Rob

                    G'day wv1, how'd your install go?

I have a Smart Bar (fitted by the dealer) and am about to add a winch. Any chance I could get a copy of the fitting instructions if you still have them. Might speed up the process a bit, Cheers

I’m gonna Open this old thread if that’s ok! Can we get some more feedback on the Smart Bar on more recent Prado builds?
