  • Genuine Toyota, Commercial Bull Bar

    Hi Guys,

I recently changed over my 150 Prado, going from the 2014 3L, to the Current 2019 2.8L, overall its not bad, though I do miss the turbo whistle from the 3L.
As part of the deal, I had the Genuine "Commercial Bull Bar" fitted at the dealership, pre-delivery. (Don't need a winch)

Now, Despite all the brochures showing fog lamps in the bull bar..... I didnt get any in my one - It is the GX though.

Has anyone sourced the fog lamps that will fit into this bar?

Looking around It almost looks like this is a shared part with the Corolla, Yaris and a few other models. it also looks like all of the wiring is in place for me to just plug into. Would be nice if this is the case...

Can anyone shed some light on this?

    Hi Wheelnut,

I have a new GXL with the new "Genuine Toyota " Bar. My bar had some predrilled holes to take driving lights. Those holes are widely spaced and I assumed that way so any lights were well away from the Radar sensor that is in the middle of the front grill. I measured the hole centres for clearance from the nearby bar stanchions and I thought maybe I could fit maximum 8" lights without drilling new holes.

I couldn't justify the $$ for some of the lights that are going around. I ended up some Kings Osram Domin8rx7" LED spotlights from 4wdSupastore. A good price from there and supplied with a prepared loom. Except my autoelectrian could not use the Kings loom with the self levelling LED headlights fitted to the new GXLs. (Advice in this forum also says your new Self Levelling headlights will not go so well if you go in water greater than 700mm deep. Their ECU etc does not like water and very expensive non warranty replacements.).The Toyota loom cost more than the lights .

I am very satisfied with the performance of my lights and their value for money.

      Hi Watsea

I've actually got some of the 9" Osram Domin8r driving lights form Kings, under the Christmas tree (Santa is an Awesome guy) had a quick look and they do easily fit in there. Just need an extra hole.
The lights I am unsure of are the ones fitted into the plastic insert of the bull bar frame, that has the indicator light/parking light as standard. You, having the GXL, may already have those smaller 4" foglamps fitted there? The GX doesn't come with fog lamps, but all the wiring for them appears to be in there.
As far as water goes.... I don't take my car swimming.

It turns out that Toyota just take the fog lamps out of the plastic bumper when they take it off to fit the bull bar. Those fog lamps are then re-fitted to the bull bar.
From what I can see, they are the same as the ones fitted to Corolla & Yaris models & are available on eBay for less than $30 a pair.

Toyota Spare parts couldn't tell me what goes in there..... It was a sales guy who told me what they do with the change over of the lights.

          Hi Wheelnut,

          FYI.
My first attempt at putting a photo into a PP forum.
Photo of my Toyota bar at the front right side showing the fog light area.

            Interesting......watsea.

Quite different to mine. Im guessing you have a GXL with the "Alloy Bull Bar"?

Mine looks like this (hoping pic attaches itself to the post)

Hmmm, yeah, there was a black bar available at the time. I didn't check whether it was coated alloy or steel. Any dealers with display vehicles with bars fitted in your area. My dealer had a vehicle in the yard with a black bar. I cannot remember the fog light arrangement.

Mine is the "Commercial Bull Bar" its a Black, powder coated, alloy bull bar, for GX & GXL (its on the Toyota website, accessory page)

It is not possible to mount a winch in it, due to the light construction, but that wasn't important for me anyway...…..& I just wanted it to be black.

I can see that there is a fuse in the fuse box for front fog lamps, and there are also a few un-used plugs, in the wiring loom at the front of the vehicle. There is also an unused plug behind the switch panel, in the dash. I've got to trace it all out but I'm believing that all the wiring for the fog lamps is already in there.

Hope you are successful. My fog light switch is on the indicator stalk, adjacent to the headlights switch.
