My Prado has a 40mm suspension lift and the standard jack is a tiny little thing that doesn't look much good for anything except a standard vehicle on a hard level surface. I also tow a pod trailer that has just as much clearance as the Prado. I don't want a high lift jack so figured I'd look at a larger bottle jack. Anyone got any experience with different brands and sizes. Also interested in jack base plates suitable for off-road work. Cheers.

The Toyota screw jack will still work on the rear axle. Screw jacks are more reliable than hydraulic jacks.
I carry a couple of slabs of hardwood for extra height and they double up as spreaders when on sand. You'll need something like them anyway.
I also carry a short jack ram extension for extra contingency. Roadsafe and Proquip sell them.Last edited by RPP; 07-10-2020, 06:28 PM.

I still carry the Toyota screw jack in its normal location. Soon after buying a 2 tonne camper trailer, I spiked a sidewall on one of its tyres. I don't think Toyota had lifting one side of a 2 tonne trailer in mind when they designed their screw jack! After that, I bought a 4 T hydraulic "bottle" jack and carry that in the camper trailer. I had to use it when I punctured new new a rear tyre on the Prado (sidewall again) a few weeks ago while towing.
I prefer the hydraulic jack - always carry it upright, though. Like RPP, I also carry a piece of 25mm marine ply for uneven or soft ground.
