  • Strange noise from dash

For the past week I have been getting a quiet ticking/clicking noise from the left side of the dash.

It seems to be coming from near the airbag and happens as the car goes over very minor bumps. It happen mainly when the dash is warm.

Has anyone else had this problem or got any ideas on what might be causing the noise

Mine does this when the dash is hot and I have the fan going with heater temp set to cool (Especially when A/C is on). I think its the plastic parts of your dash just contracting with the change of temp just like a house does of a night as it cools down.

    Maybe...

Some more investigation and I have confirmed that it has nothing to do with the a/c. It seems to get worse as the dash gets hot and the clicking becomes quite loud, its going into the dealer next week.

The dash has more rattles and noises than my mates heavily bashed 13 year old Prado, or any other car that I have ever owned. As well as the clicking there are now loud rattles on both sides of the dash.

While I'm very happy with the cars performance, it's pretty disappointing from a brand the advertises about quality every night on TV.

At least the dealer has been excellent so far.

Thought I'd share the cause to help anyone else with this problem.

The noise disappears when the car is cold and gets progressively noisier as the outside of the car heats up. It sounded like a ticking/creaking coming from the top of the dash and turned out to be coming from the external black plastic wiper cover. Luckily we found it as Toyota were getting ready to remove the dash to find the problem.

That cover is responsible for a number of faults, the other main one is the 1500RPM vibration rattle in the D4D. My dealer just replaced mine under warranty and took the opportunity to add some additional felt where it rests against the firewall/body.

Hi Steve, I also have the same noise coming from the dash on my 2010 Prado. Do you perhaps remember how Toyota fixed it?

I assume it is the 1500rpm rattle. If so have read through this thread http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...on-and-rattles

The 1500 drone was fixed long time ago by Toyota. It is small click/squeek noise coming from the top of the center console every time I go over the smallest bump similar to what Steve/Krypto report in the first post.

Yep, same problem. I'm going to try to wedge something in between the wiper cover seal and the windscreen to see if that helps. It's very frustrating.

                    ** UPDATE **

I pulled off the wiper cover plastic piece that sits between the bottom of the windscreen and the bonnet and it turns out there is foam strips attached to various parts. The foam was highly compressed (old) and no longer doing the job so I replaced the strips and no noise!
