No cracked guards on my 150 v6 has dual batteries ARB steel bar winch etc and Hutch will agree it is used primarily as a 4WD and touring vehicle.

MITCHM If you check with Toyota you will find the warranty goes up to 31st Dec 2013 on you car, not the end of May

Currently working out in the NPY lands area and you'd be glad that you didn't have a 2011/12 Nissan Patrol. They are all cracking at the rear chassis, one so bad that the rear end was was moving separately from the front. Most belong to Education Dept and have been sent to Alice for major repairs. In the mean time the tax payer is picking up the tab for the rented Pajeros.

I think if you're not going to keep your car long term, then the petrol would probably be a good choice (2nd hand though as u hopefully won't lose as much $$). If u like doing long distance touring trips where fuel is a issue, then maybe the diesel. For me, the Diesel was the only one I looked at as I planned to keep it long term + I love the outback touring trips, etc..... How long I keep it will depend on how big my 3 kids grow to......

My brother traded up from a D4D hilux to a new V6 hilux and wished he did it sooner. The little extra in fuel (extra 2L/100km) is way worth the extra power and less diesel worries- not to mention service costs after warranty runs out.

What's your average fuel economy with the V6 hutch?

I am starting to think the V6 petrol is a good alternative to all our worrying problems. We will get a better nights sleep...

No cracked guards, no injector problems, no leaking seats, or no engine rattles... I wonder if I can swap?

Four people since April seams fairly limited, I was under the impression this was far more widespread. As outback has said, it's sucks to be the owner of one and as yet, there's hardly a trend to help prevent this from happening. Yet another monthly check I suppose.

The only concern with putting a battery in the rear is the possibility of it leaking gas when it gets hot. Sealed or not sealed they can emit gases when being charged or when getting a little too hot. Not to mention that Toyota have designed the engine bay so that a second battery can be installed.

Great thread Brains. Hopefully we can shed a little more light on where the problem lies.

So far from everyones posts it seems that the crack can occur on either inner guard, and is only occurring if you have a dual battery setup, bull bar, and suspension lift. What is really alarming is that most of these vehicles have not really done much extreme off road trips except for Rob-Macca. All the other trips could be achieved in a stock 4x4 if you really wanted to. Keep the experiences coming in.

I am wondering if Toyota was using a different grade of material in the earlier models which is the cause, or whether its just the age of the car and over time that area starts to show fatigue. Either way you don't expect that in any 3 year old vehicle, especially when you pay a $60 000 premium when new.

Thanks for that.... That's surprising as I would have thought that the mining vehicles would have definitely had some issues....

It would be interesting to hear from owners who have a Std Prado & drive continually on corrugated roads as to whether they have had any issues......
