Brand new 2018 prado Chassis rust spots

Hi All,

New Prado owner here, I have just picked up a brand new Nov 2018 built Prado and it drives great. I have had a bit of a look underneath and have noticed some what appear to be rust spots along the chassis. They appear to be only surface rust but spread out all over the chassis mainly along welds. I will be going back to Toyota to have a look at some of the models they have there to see if they are showing the same signs but from the owners here, is this to be expected on a brand new car or have i picked up a Dud. I had similar on my 120, wasn't rust just might have been a flux they use when welding or some sort of protective coating

I have a brand new 2020 Gxl and have the same issues. I have been treating and painting over these myself. What was the outcome from Toyota?

After seeing the original post last year, I checked and found that my new 2019 vehicle had similar issues.
So I spent some character building time doing my own touch ups too. Before doing my own, I checked on a local spray rustproofing business that had done my previous Series 90 in 2002. Unfortunately he had just closed his shop in January 2019. Interestingly, I was not able to find any spray rustproofing businesses. I suppose most people going for electronic rust protection, if anything.

Only the fools would install this. Well known to be usueless and more a scam than anything. Quick google even shows the consumer organisations warning people of it..
