Greetings from South Africa.
Respect and thanks to all who make this forum so informative, useful and (sometimes) entertaining.
I have a 2010 Prado 150 V6 4.0 VX that I got 2nd hand three years ago. On bumpy roads I noticed an intermittent clunk sound coming from the glove box (cubby hole) area and assumed that it must be something normal as there is usually some movement in this area as it must open and shut. I did empty the box and then also remove it, but the clunk was still there.
As I have now fitted a National Luna split charger and Madman engine and gearbox monitors, I was looking for a route to get the wiring through the firewall on the passenger side. I removed the glove box and then I removed the panel that goes down to the footwell underneath the glovebox. Lying loose behind this panel was the item shown in the photos. It works like a piston or gas strut, but I have not been able to find anywhere that it could possible connect to. First thought was that is would hold the glove box as it opens, but no bracket there to fit it.
So what is this part and where could it have come from?
Perhaps it was left there by someone working on the vehicle before I bought it?
Thanks,
Mike.
