2016 Prado needs new brakes

So i have a prado that is 2 1/2 yrs old that has done 70 000km and needs new brake pads on the back. I find this rather amusing. I sold a Patrol that had 180 000km on it and was still on original brakes.

Has anyone had extremely average life from their brakes?

I have a 2009 155 SX auto and, having come from a Patrol 2.8 manual, was quite surprised I need front and back pads at 75,000

At the 95,000k service I was informed the pads were 40% worn.

Is that your observation or recommendation by Toyota service? I would not believe the service agent as I have already caught one out trying to say I needed new pads that still had 6mm on them.

Toyota's observation. I didn't get them done as I will be checking myself first.

Autos go through brakes compared to manuals for obvious reasons

2.8l patrols wouldn't get going fast enough to need brakes would they ?

Ran at the speed limit just like the 155SX I have now.

The Patrol had a greater range than the Prado too.

anything to do with the 95l main tank & 40l sub tank totaling 135l in the 2.8 as oposed to the 87 in the shorty??

i just love sitting in them doing 2800 rpm @ 110 kmph mmmmm dont make them like that anymore

Toyota's observation. I didn't get them done as I will be checking myself first.

I recall when Toyota told me my rears needed doing soon.. I changed them out 120k kms later and they still had some meat left..... Yes 120,000 kms...

I recently replaced my rear brakes (120 series manual) at 185,000km, for the first time.

I seem to remember it being 95 and 30Lt but it was a while ago and I am not as young as I was back then.

I really liked the 2.8 Patrol and it certainly felt a lot tougher than the 155 Plastic SX.

The 155 is certainly a lot more city friendly and my wife will quite happily drive it if it is last in the drive but I do miss the cavernous space in the Patrol when travelling the outback.

I did get a second opinion before I replaced the Prado's pads and I inspected them afterwards and they were certainly near the end of life.
