First post!
Just brought a 2010 GXL auto 126000km Not done any serious 4x4, no heavy towing, been a town car, one owner and full service history at the one mechanic. Really is a great car.. But when I purchased couldn't get it out on a freeway and test drive at above 100km/h so now have found a whine noise above 100km, hear when on the accelerator, not there if off accelerator. Nothing below 90km/h really smooth and no noise. apart from the tyres....
I have lots of tyre noice!! Toyo open country, on car when I purchased and seriously thinking of changing even if they have 70+% tread left! they are really noisy!!!!!!!
Local 4x4 Mechanic has suggested it’s the rear diff, is this common? Changed fluids in diffs, auto and transfer case with no change.
Drive shafts uni's and slip joints greased
Will drop the rear tail shaft to confirm if it’s the diff?
Could it be the transfer case or auto?
I've added Nulon shifteze to the rear diff, Probable just wasted $20 but worth a try?
I also dropped into Newcastle gearbox and diff for a chat. And after I get back from holidays I'll get the car into them as they're going to take it for a test drive and see what they think.
I can get a second hand diff with 100000km on it? worth the risk?
Time for a locker?
Factory locking diff if I can find a good second hand one?
ATB/trutrac (torsion bias lsd)?
E-locker or Air?
Cheers Lemo
