  • Diff Breathers Prado 150 OEM

Hi. I have a 2016 Prado 150 GXL 2.8 diesel. When I mentioned adding diff breathers the person I spoke to said that the GXL had a front diff breather as an OEM fit. Is that true? I find it hard to believe since there is none on the rear so why only install a front diff breather!

The rear diff does have a breather however it is mounted on the diff housing, it is not raised at all, I think you will find the oem front diff breather is on the end of a hose.

Yes that is correct. I have checked both now. The front diff has an extended breather that reaches up into the left hand side of the engine bay. The rear diff has a surface mounted breather (that will need extending). I will check the forum as there are threads on how to do this).

      Many thanks Lee

I hope to remove the name and shame of "Lurker" now that I have found out how to turn on notifications.

‘Lurker’ is purely to do with the number of posts you have made.....

Has anyone bothered to extend the little breather on the rear diff lock actuator? I was a little surprised that it had a separate breather and didn't vent back into the main diff housing. There's no oil fill or drain on the actuator so I imagine that there's no oil seal between the actuator housing and diff.

I did the rear diff and fuel tank breathers, was very easy, I just ran them up into where your fuel intake nozzle is.

                Hi all,
Sorry, newbie here, but interested in this thread as I am in the process of extending the breathers in my Prado.
Re the rear differential, I can see 2 breathers. 1 is mentioned directly in the service manual (see picture - lower red box), but the second (the breather mounted directly to the diff housing) is not mentioned in the service manual at all that I can see.
I take it that the breather mounted directly on the diff housing needs to be extended (I plan to run it into the chamber where the jack is housed), but does anyone know the purpose of the second breather (that has been extended away from the diff assembly by a hose mounted to a cross member, but not really raised much at all).
                Any advice appreciated.
