Prado 150 Auto, will not Reverse?
I have a Prado 150 2009 D4d GXL Automatic.
Over the weekend Family and I went to a 4wd park and blogged the car in really soft river sand.
While trying to get unbogged and switching between High range and Low range a few times, when i tried to reverse there was nothing in the way of movement backwards, ( wheels not turning or spinning at all) I could only go forward.
2 and a half hours later got the car out and still can’t reverse.
The reverse lights come on, but car just revs. If I rev the car to 5000rpm, it feels like it wants to go (little slow movement if on level ground), but nothing more.
There was no breakage noises during any of the recovery or afterwards.
Most, if not all of the recovery was with a winch, so don't believe that I put too much stress on motor or gearbox.
All of the forward gears are working fine, whether in D (drive) or S (sports/manual) modes.
I read a post from this forum back in 2018, of a bloke that something similar it happened to in Broome, where he lost reverse and car stuck in 1st gear, but there's no reply to what he did to fix it, I have emailed him, but no reply as yet.
Some people have suggested that my transmission fluid level could be low, but wouldn’t I then have issues with all the other forward gears?
This moring I have checked the Transmission fluid, by getting the tempreture up to 42.5 degs, and with the car still idling pulled out the overflow plug from transmission pan and oil ran out.
The oil was more Red than Brown. I changed the transmission oil, but not the filter 18,000 kms ago.
I don't tow much other than a box camper trailer, which I would be lucky to have towed more than 3 times in the past 12 months and don't do serious off roading.
Has anyone else experienced this or know of someone who has had this?
Any ideas on what could have happened or how I can fix it?
