  • centre dash / instrument lights not working

hi everyone. I've got a 150 series gx. just bought it and love it! the central instrument cluster (aircon switches etc) don't have backlighting. the lights in the dials (speedo, tach, etc) all work, same for the clock and stereo. the little lights also work that light up when recirc or a/c is switched on, just not the backlights! so I'm fumbling round in the dark trying to find which button is which....

a mate of mine who's a mechanic tested all the fuses and reckons they're all fine. he thought it might be something unplugged behind the dash.

has anyone had this or have any suggestions?

    would really appreciate any thoughts!!

    thanks all

I'm just gonna throw it out there. Not long before our battery died, the radio screen would randomly turn off. Radio still worked, but nothing on the screen. Hasn't been a problem since the new battery. Maybe get your battery tested?

Certainly seems strange for so many things to be affected though.

Moe than likely a dry joint if it is a circuit board based backlight setup. If it is a circuit board you can pull it out and resolder every joint to see if that repairs it.

Thanks for your suggestions guys! Looks like it's going to have to go back to the dealer, hopefully it's claimable under warranty!

Just wondering how you went with finding the problem with the lights?

Did anyone find the problem? I've got the same issue.

Not trying to be smart but you did try the light switch? Turn the dial from the off position to the single dot position and the lights should turn on. Otherwise there may be a bad connection there.

Surely it could also be as simple as the fuse?

Bringing up an old thread but I'm having this same issue, I've done a lot of testing and found there's healthy voltage going to all the switches i tested which makes me think its a bad earth, pulled every panel and check every earth i could find and they all seemed fine, clean and no damage, didn't remove them to test individual wires out of fear of braking something, I presume they made them intentionally hard to get to for that reason, and i have no idea which earth is for what anyway. I'm stumped. has anyone resolved this issue or have any advice on where to next. auto elec would even waste his time on it which im grateful for because i had to rewire the dual battery straight after he installed it.

For anyone who has this issue in the future i finally found out what was the cause of my switch lights not working after a year of searching, There's a plug under the cover for the gearstick/handbrake area, it was either unplugged by the previous owner or had come unclipped somehow. plugged it back in and now all is good. hope of someone has this problem this helps them in the future, otherwise ive basically learnt the whole circuit now so might be able to provide some guidance.

This worked for me. Silly me had not reconnected the connectors under the centre console, and the air gap also explained why my 12V cig connection wasn't working...

Could you please give a description of which plug needs to be plugged in? Cheers

Forgive me for stating the obvious but every plug should be plugged into a socket. Depending on the options of each particular vehicle, there may be sockets with no matching plug, though..

Hey GeeWiz thanks for your reply. I get that they should be plugged in. However, if there was a description of the one they found to be a problem (not plugged in) there is a chance that there may be a chance for problem solving if they are plugged in and could then test the right plug and not the every single one under that area. Cheers.

Same here, I've looked under the center console, only plug I could see was power plug to the 12v socket, this has nothing to do with the climate control.
