  • Prado Audio system on 2014 Prado

I have a new 2014 Model Prado and I wonder if there is a loom available to connect a 2nd USB device. I don't want to leave my iPod in view yet I would like to leave it hidden in the console or glove compartment. Im a bit hesitant to remove the radio Pod at this stage as I Don't kow how to remove it without breaking something, but I also wonder if there is another usb port at the back of the head unit that used in the Limited version. (Mines a VX)

    Cheers

You could just get an extension for the USB, long enough to be able to run it into you glove box or centre console, I guess it's a quick fix, less clean but would allow it to stay away from prying eyes

I notice on my GXL there is a greyed out option under the source menu that says USB2. Was wondering if there was a port on the back but even if there was I don't know how you would enable it

Yep Considering the previous users response, an extention cable worked. SO I bough a USB hub and connected it up under the console. WHen you connect a second USB device, it lights up and becomes usable. Im sure that wouldn't be Toyota's answer but it works! Grabbed a genuine Toyota usb outlet and hacke it up a bit, also hacke up the hub outlet and prized out the pins a bit to make a firm fit and wallah. There you have it. Tried to attach a picky but couldn't.

So if you plug a hub into the outlet on the console the 2nd USB option becomes enabled when 2 USB are plugged in. Is that how it works?

Yes that is how it works. Not sure whay I would bother but it shows that it does work. I guess you could have you music on once usb and wifes on another.

My plan was to do something like you have done and use a hub inside the console and run another cable up to the glovebox where you can hide the USB with music on it but still have the factory console one working and no cables lying around

Hey guys, I am planning something similar to connect a phone to an aftermarket head unit (with usb socket at rear).

I was planning to install a USB socket in the centre console and hide the cable under the console trim upto the rear of the head unit. My question is, the cables that come with the usb dash switch connections all appear to be ~1 m in length which could be too short. Would you use a female - female usb extension cable hidden behind the trim (with the risk of disconnection) or would you extend the usb cable via cut/crimp?

                      Use an extension cable.

Just be aware that USB cables have a recommended maximum length depending on USB type. USB 3.0 is approx 3 m and USB 2.0 is approx 5m (but some sources say up to 10m),

I would tape the join of the extension cable to keep it all together.
