Hi Folks, I've noticed that there is lots of detail available regarding aux batteries however I keen to know what is considered to be the best option for replacing the factory main battery?, ideally I would like to fit a battery with lots of grunt as I run a Warn XP9.5, something that's capable of Oodnadatta corrugations would also be good. Vehicle is a VX with all the electrical baggage, Appreciate your help, cheers

Main Battery Replacement
Keitam
Can't go past the Optima Batteries (IMO). My first replacement Battery was an Optima D27M Battery. These are a Marine Grade Battery which along with its unique Spiral Cell design, is built to handle severe corrugations and vibration.

Plus one for the Optima as well as any decent marine grade construction battery , by decent i mean ask them if they give an Australia wide warranty - not exclusive to dealers only , that sorts the charf from the wheat
Not sent from an iPhone thingy2012 Graphite GXL T/D Auto, with all the normal crap you fit

D4D's looks to be the D27F which is the one you would want to go for. As mentioned, this model has the posts in the correct orientation. I have the D27M as pictured below. The advantage of the D27M is the extra posts for accessories, however you will need to extend the Ground cable to reach across to the other side.

Hi All, I have a 2010 D4D and the original crank battery recently failed to hold charge. After much research I decided on a Optima Blue top D27M. I got the 27M for $285 here in Perth which was a great deal compared to the D27F which was $390. Yes you have to modify the connections but I decided not to extend the cables, but rather use an alloy extender plate for the positive and just flatten the angle on the negative connection to make it fit. Works a treat. I'll get a photo soon.

For my customers, I recommend the century 4x4 overlander, top battery & Aussie made, I've noticed this forum is a lot about supporting Aussie businesses but apparently not when it comes to batteries?
I sell them for $189.00 not sure if you can get those prices where you are.
Best value or money battery you can put in!!!
Aussie made too, so some jobs will stay if we support them.
You can buy with the posts either way.Last edited by Anth120playdo; 06-01-2014, 02:02 PM.

As you are in Adelaide, you can try Peter and Rick's Auto. One of the cheapest places for batteries I've found.

Adelaide Independent Batteries on Research Road, Pooraka have some of the best Prices I've seen on AGM's. Sub $300 on my Optima Yellow top and same for my SSB 130AH. Very good customer service too.
Consider some sort of heat shielding when running AGM's guys, makes all the difference in maximising the life of them.

Will the factory battery work OK as an aux? Common advice seems to be you need a deep cycle as an aux whereas the main is normally a cranking battery. I'm only asking as my main (a cranker) is still OK but a little underpowered for winching, was thinking of swapping it out for a higher CCA battery like the Century Overlander and using the older battery as an aux.
