I wouldn't put it inside the vehicle if you are leaning that way.

I wasn't planning to, I'm aware of the dangers of using a normal vehicle/boat battery inside the cabin.

Also, at 5 years old, the factory battery is getting close to the end of it's life.

Time for 2 new battery's.
Century 4x4 overlander to crank & winch.
Century marine pro 730 for second, great for deep cycle & will crank & winch well too if your in a pickle. Very long life battery, I see 7 years from them in customers boats.

I recently installed a Century N70T and Century Overlander. The newer N70T's don't seem to use as much water as the same battery from a few years ago. Century must have changed the plate material.

No personal (recent) experience with Century batteries, I just happened to be reading that thread just before coming back to this one. If what they are saying is correct then it doesn't sound like the Century Marine battery is a good option though.

I have an Optima blue top for my cranking battery, so far very happy with that, no complaints at all although its only a couple of years old so still to stand the test of time.

My second battery is an AGM, I actually cant remember what brand but its still going strong after 4 years so cant complain. I have the second battery mounted in the cargo area.

I don't think I will ever buy any battery for any application that's not a sealed unit again, I always seem to have a good run with sealed units, better than with "normal" batteries.

How long is the original battery lasting? Has anyone had one die yet?

My original battery is now 4 years old (petrol model), still looking good, as is the 2nd deep cycle battery.

I wouldn't modifiy wiring just to make an Optima battery fit. What if you decide to change back? The Century overlander is a good cranking battery. Deep cycle AGM as second battery for fridges.
