Gutted to find this thread! Was driving my 2014 GLX 75000kms on a long gravel road today to get the blue screen, reboot screen, then Toyota logo and dead. Started the car a few hours later and loaded ok, but then repeated the sequence to dead again.
I thought the corrugations might have caused a power issue, but then if that was the case, it would just die instantly I would have thought.
My firmware was updated to the latest a month ago. I bought the car second hand from a Hyundai dealer, should I take it back there or to Toyota?

This started happening to me yesterday. Constant reboots and disconnecting the battery does nothing.
It was my understanding that a reversing camera was a legal requirement for 4wd after a certain build date due to the number of deaths from people reversing over kids etc. Assuming this is true, this now technically makes my car illegal?? Surely that's a reason enough for these faults to be classed as a recall?

Hey Jboy, My 2014 GXL did the started the dreaded reboot screen a few weeks ago. Obviously out of warranty, took it to Toyota to see if they could fix it with firmware update. Reported it to be an internal fault and would need a replacement. Quoted me $1,100 for a refurbished unit replacement. I stated that this was not acceptable and requested that they put an out of warranty claim in for me to Toyota head office. The dealer said it would most likely not get approved. Too my surprise they have approved the out of warranty claim and the dealership have now ordered the part and will supply and fit it for free. So maybe go talk to your closest toyota dealer and see what they can do. Otherwise I was close to getting a DigOptions unit or a Chinese unit.

Hi All,
Our jan 14 built 150 GXL First had the Bluetooth module drop out, then it would randomly start up on different screens when you started the car. Then finally the other day it went into constant reboot !!! When we bought the car it had already had an Advanced ice plug and play navigation system installed. Which worked well an operated through the normal radio unit.
I have taken the Prado to the local dealership who have confirmed that the unit is stuffed but they won’t help warranty wise as the car is 12 months over. They quoted $2040 for a replacement unit. Their only suggestion was to remove the unit and they would send it to Fujitsu ten to see if it could be repaired. They also said they had never seen an advanced ice unit fitted or even herd of it? The suggestion was Maybe this caused the radio to fail.
So, I’ll remove the unit and send it away and see what happens. If the radio is to much to repair I will have an advanced ice unit for sale!
I was looking at possibly replacing the radio with a Dig options unit as it seems to be good value with decent reviews. Has anyone else used one of these units? If so what are your thoughts good/ bad.
Oh, btw to stop the unit flashing I pulled the fuses. Interestingly enough they are in the fuse box under the bonnet and not in the cab like most cars.
Cheers

Hi, Mine has the same rebooting problem.
My is 2014 facelift prado VX Diesel. Now driving 110K kilometer for 4.5 years. There is no more warranty. But the screen is just keep rebooting all the time. it seem toyota screen system has factory faulty. Can't be fixed by any auto machinacial. I took it to local Toyota dealer and they said there is another RAV4 screen has the same rebooting problem. But they are not sure and have to report to Toyota.
Now it is three days. no more screen system, no more reverse camera, no more blue tooth and not more navigation. The light keep flashing all the time. Not safe during driving. So annoying!!! Any one has this problem been fixed??? Much appreciate!!!

That's average to hear Shandymal!
Surely the kms has nothing to do with a faulty radio or not! It would almost be worth pushing the case, as Australian Consumer Law states warranty has to be valid for "what would be reasonably expected"
A radio on a $60,000 car should last the initial 3 year warranty!! Don't want to get your hopes up, but perhaps try pushing the case/complaining more? Especially if it's a known problem with these faulty radios!
There was a journo's detail Glover, from memory, from the Sydney Morning Herald or similar big east coast paper, who had an article on the Prado radios. Maybe search the forums and email him?

Mine is kaput,
shows the reverse camera while going forward/ blank screen or just the warning page and Bluetooth is not working.
Toyota had a look $2100 for a new one or an exchange for $1400 from Fujitsu ten.Dissapointing as it is less than 3 years old but out of warranty by kms (126K).Does any one know if the latter (2.8) GXL unit will fit /work?
Mine is november 2013 GXL.

Got my radio replaced today, from the look of the buttons on the side it looks like a brand new one, the markings are very new and clean looking. Service guy said early ones which are the ones failing had some connectors on the back that enabled people to add the navigation software to it but replacement radios don't have these and people aren't happy. Not sure what he was talking about as I wasn't aware the GXL radio could have the nav stuff added

Dropped the car off today for the 90k service and the radio replacement too. Cracked the sh!ts with the dealership after waiting 4-5 weeks... After being told 3-4 week wait... Then found out it hasn't actually been ordered!!
It's now come in a week since then, and picking up in the next hour or so!

Yeah bretthar I know your pain... Mine failed the week I was driving 1,500km around Central Australia... With quite boring scenery!!
Let's just say I've become good friends with my Bluetooth speakers to help with the tunes at least!
The other really annoying thing is the screen turning on/off bright blue whilst driving night... Very distracting and blinding.

I contacted toyota to vent some frustration and they were very concerned for me but basically that was it, I told them I'm leaving on a 3 week trip next week and would like an audio system and reversing camera, after the dealer told me a week to get one in which I didn't believe Toyota emailed me back and said a week and a half which is after I leave. I rang spare parts and they have one in stock locally which I could get the same day for a price of $2060. So I emailed toyota again saying how about the dealer just orders this one in but no response. I'm now quite sure I'll be on the road for 3 weeks without the radio.
