  • Hidden UHF Mounting

Mounted my Icom IC-450 recently into my 150 GX, found a nice hidden away spot for mounting above the passenger kick panel under the dash so thought I'd share some photos for anyone looking for mounting options.

To get to the mounting location the glove box and inner part of the glove box needs to be removed. Very simple process takes no longer than five minutes.

I used the existing thread holes up under the dash to mount the UHF holding bracket, just had to slightly enlarge one of the slots on the bracket itself and if all fitted up nicely.

The hand piece is plugged into a socket made by lightforce that fits into one of the prado blank switch locations, I used an ethernet extension cable bought from jaycar that goes from the UHF to the back of the lighforce socket.

Can post more photos or info if needed.

No worries, I spent hours pulling apart different parts of the dash to find the best fit, good to see its of use to others.

Where did you tap into for your 12V?

Sorry Scotta, been a while since I've checked in on here. I had added in an accessory socket in the rear of the car that went directly to the battery to run my fridge and I tapped the UHF 12v into that. I was going to use the 12V from the cigarette socket in the centre console but that involved taking it all out again which by this stage I was over doing again.
