  • Recommendation for auxiliary battery?

Looking for recommendation for a good value deep cycle auxiliary battery that fit well in a tray behind the drivers side headlight and works with the simple redarc isolation solenoid. I already have the system installed, just need to replace the battery.

    Cheers

It has been suggested over the years that marine batteries were a reasonable compromise between capacity and resistance to vibration. I would suggest get a maintainable battery if possible, which last time I checked was still available in a marine battery. I have a Century deep cycle in mine, has a drinking problem probably due to age and the heat under there, Minimum weight would be a good thing as well.
    cheers
    Steve

Have a look at the Optima Yellow Tops, they can certainly handle the heat as they're designed for starting/deep cycle application and recharge very quickly via traditional isolators.

        Downside is price though...

I have a Delkor that was recommended and and supplied by Outback Batteries in Alice Springs a year ago. I also have a Redarc solenoid. Haven't had any issues with it so far.

Hi Wil and 120D4D's suggestion is the best option.

While the Optimas are not available in anything bigger than a 75Ah battery, because they can be fully charged at a lower voltage than most batteries, you will actually end up with near the same usable capacity of any other 100Ah battery, and the Optima will recharge 2 to 4 times quicker than other batteries.

As for the price, they have come down a long way and there are some good prices on Ebay.

Has anyone fitted an optima 75ah battery into a 150 in the spot behind the headlight? Website says 324mm long, but the space is 295mm max or you are hitting what looks like an aircon hose.

                current battery is a d34 55ah.

                  Hi all,

Might I also seek some advice from the group please as I do need a second battery for Prado 150 (2015) + fitting kit. I am currently looking at Century AGM Battery (C12-75DA).

                  Warm regards,

i went to their website, but they don’t have a set one for a Prado. Do you currently run one?
