  • MY014 GXL Stereo update

    Hello all,
The stereo on my MY014 Prado GXL is trying to do an update but is stuck in some sort of resetting loop. The little white bar goes along but at he last second it seems to reset. System goes no further, just the updating screen over and over again. This means no music or reversing camera. Any clues anyone please??

Pretty sure this is a common error with them- There was another thread about this somewhere else, I'm pretty sure your only recourse is to take it to the dealer- Although others who are more knowlegeable about this topic might be able to give you a more detailed explination.

I had a similar issue with mine (2014 GXL) but was able to get the dealer to provide a new radio unit. As Atherton has said above, your dealer is probably the first option, if they cannot help then source an android unit online.

Hi, Mine has the same rebooting problem.

My is 2014 facelift prado VX Diesel. Now driving 110K kilometer for 4.5 years. There is no more warranty. But the screen is just keep rebooting all the time. it seem toyota screen system has factory faulty. Can't be fixed by any auto machinacial. I took it to local Toyota dealer and they said there is another RAV4 screen has the same rebooting problem. But they are not sure and have to report to Toyota.

Now it is three days. no more screen system, no more reverse camera, no more blue tooth and not more navigation. The light keep flashing all the time. Not safe during driving. So annoying!!! Any one has this problem been fixed??? Much appreciate!!!

Cheers everyone. We ended up at the dealership and they confirmed this cannot be fixed. They've contacted the stereo supplier to see if they'll replace it. They did say it would be at least two weeks and it's been two weeks. Will keep you posted. They even recommended we look at non-Toyota replacement as it would be very expensive to replace by them. Got a couple of YouTube videos for the unplug and plug of the stereo so worst case, new Android unit it is...

I've heard lots of good reviews of the Chinese Android systems which as you said are plug and play. I'll be looking into one of them shortly as the factory unit is absolute rubbish.
Make sure you search for reviews on the particular one you're after though. I've heard good reviews for 'Joying' in particular

Fred_Preston or Pradovx2014, thanks for sharing your frustration. What was the outcome? What was the pain ($)?

I'm concerned about the potential for this to happen to my MY14 as well. Can you tell us was this an update that was manually initiated, or did it just happen?

Was Toyota Link active on your phone at the time? Ie was the stereo unit linked to the World Wide Inter-webs at the time of the failed update?

I'm thinking that since the web connected apps on the MY14 are a complete gimmick and serve no meaningful function (beyond what you can do directly on your smartphone) I might delete Toyota Link from mine and my wife's phones.

No inter-webs, no updates, no problems ....right?

EDIT:...so 18months after I made this post the "Continuous reboot screen" issue struck my MY14 audio unit. Issue is a failure of a hardware component and replacement/repair is required. Issue is not software related as i have speculated above (hence this correction). This failure is common (just search "MY14 reboot" in the North American Corolla and Rav4 forums). Toyota are replacing the units free of charge outside of warranty as they are required to do under the "acceptable quality consumer guarantees" of the Australian Consumer Law.
