  • 150 Series Prado Head Swap Unit Issue

    Hi All

I have a 2014 GXL Prado and the head unit died - same issue as here - https://www.pradopoint.com.au/forum/...dio-nav-system
I confirmed it was stuffed with the Toyota dealer and all they can do is replace with new for about $1600.

A friend has a 2016 GXL Prado and upgraded his head unit so I got a hold of his to replace mine.To be specific, mine is a February 2014 model, his is a September 2016 model Fujitsu.
When I plugged it in, all the cables fit and it boots up fine however the volume knob does not work (on the head unit or through the steering wheel) and only the left speakers work. When going into the sound area to center the speakers, it is full left and everything is disabled - I can't change it. That said, everything else works. Radio seek (from unit and steering wheel), reverse camera, on/off using the volume controller (that doesn't work for volume), Sat Nav - the works.

I isolated the speaker and power plugs and they are identical. We have tried everything to make it work, even swapping the volume controller unit PCB (from mine to my friends) but it does not work.

I was wondering if anyone had seen this issue. Either there is something wrong with the 2016 head unit, it is not compatible or I am missing something. Any ideas?

    Thanks

Thanks all for the response dds. I don't spouse anyone has any wiring diagrams handy? Toyota and Fujitsu don't make them readily available.

In case this approach does not work, can anyone recommend a after market head unit for a 2014 GXL Prado - with the hazard light switch in the right (AU model)?

Not only do Toyota and Fujitsu not make anything readily available they actively hide things to make it difficult for customers.
This may be a can bus issue, but have you seen threads such as this:
          https://www.pradopoint.com.au/forum/...-new-head-unit
and many posted by me about an Ali Express unit costing less than a "new" Toyota map card that runs android and will do anything that an android device does?
10 inch screen, run whatever GPS software and maps you like, extras like tyre pressure, dash cam, digital radio, torque pro, all easily available.
The hazard button is on the left but the wire does fit if you plug it in as the unit slides into place, if you are not happy with doing that an extension can be put in.
