  • Audio Randomly Turning off

    Hey guys,

i have a 2011 kakadu Prado and just the other day the audio made a sparking/shorting noise through the speakers and then the audio turned off ( showed on screen) for a while then turned on automatically... now this is really random it could happen when i adjust the seat to hitting a bump in the road...or may be with in 5 mins of me starting the car or driving for an hour and not play up at all.

ive disconnected the amp and it does the exact noise and symptoms as if it normally does driving down the road. now
ive wiggled the wiring into the amp while having the radio on and it doesn't do anything.
i disconnect the amp for a day and reconnected it and it lasted about 2 days and had no issue then again i adjusted the seat while driving and its started playing up again so i removed the seat and checked the clearance from the top of the amp and the seat no issues.

ive tried to find second hand amp no luck

im sure it has something to do with the amp loosing power but not 100% how else to test it and replacement is $950

has anyone had this issue and successfully replaced the amp and had no more issues

I have just started having a similar problem randomly. The radio would shut off and restart with the Toyota logo etc. also lost the AC auto settings. It ended up being a fault with my Hayman Reese trailer harness ECU. Model 04826.
It was fitted by Toyota for the trailer wiring when they fitted my tow bar. Turns out the electrical fault/short drops the voltage so far the radio turns off. It was causing the fault when I had lights on, used indicators or used the brakes. Basically anything that used the rear lights.
It is located in the rear quarter panel with the factory jack. I’m not sure sure if this helps but it is worth disconnecting it and seeing if it helps.
    ps I have a 2010 Kakadu

Wow , I have The same popping fault from our amplifier under the seat and I was chasing the exact same replacement also told $1000 and when I read the link with the trailer breaks if you would not believe but our trailer brake unit was also in fault mode and I thought it was totally unrelated but I will have to have a dig into this later on thank you

How much was the replacement tow ecu ? And did it cause any permanent damage to the stereo or the amp ?

Cost me $140 off eBay and once it was replaced everything is working fine. I was very reluctant to change it out due to the cost of the module so actually ran around with it unplugged for 2 weeks just to make sure that was the cause and the fault did not come back. Changed it out anyway and everything is working sweet.
I opened up the old one and looks like simple electronic components and nothing looked burnt or heat affected.
