  • 3" exhaust

I have a question maybe some one may have experienced it already . When fitting a 3" exhaust on the 150 diesel was the exhaust fitted directly onto the turbo or was the small extension retained and the dump pipe added onto it ?? Was a engine code thrown due to the lack of back pressure? My Toyota guy said to be aware that when fitting a bigger exhaust there always is a trade off .I'm not sure how vital back pressure is in a diesel but I know it is important in a petrol as it does affect the valves . Does anyone have some ideas or am I barking up the wrong tree. I am about to fit a 3" exhaust on my shorty Cheers Foxy

You should not have any issues with a 3in exhaust. I get better fuel economy and more power. With diesels the rule of thumb is bigger the exhaust the better. This is not case with petrol engines as you require some back pressure.
Bigger exhaust works better on my exhaust jack as well.

My 2005 diesel runs sweet with a 3inch exhaust and my mechanic said to leave it at that as chipping it will just wear the rings and pistons in your motor quicker
