  • Anths Prado Diesel 1KD-FTV Injector - Handy Tech Tips

I'm going to post up some what to do & what not to do information regarding this engine.
The vehicles are solid, great engineering generally, but there's not a lot of people who really know these engines well.
When it comes to engine work like replacing injectors, to do it right the first time, there are a lot of pitfalls to avoid.
Care & time must be taken to get it right the first time, no come backs.

    Avoiding blow by

If you don't know what or why blow by happens read this 3 times first
    http://www.pradopoint.com.au/showthr...-seats-Egr-Scv

    Tips to avoid blow by:

    1. Use only genuine parts. Injectors, washers,/seats/sheets, o-rings, all other seals & gaskets & fuel pipes Included.
    2. Make sure the ports are as clean as new. Inspect them if they have had blow by.
    3. 22nm on injector clamps using a quality torque wrench.
    4. On 2005-2009 vehicles, replace injector clamps & washers.
    5. Drop the washer into the port & make sure it's sitting flat, do not add glue or lubricants.
    6. Do not ever re-use the seating washers.
    7. Change out the washers every 120,000k & check valve clearances.
    8. If you have a 2006-2007 & Injectors have not been out, you have the old washers, get them out. New injectors.
    9. Will add more if I think of more & see more stupidity.
    10. Don't do this work unless you are smart, patient, pedantically clean & mechanically apt.

When its done correctly they come out like this

        Valve cover gaskets & sealing

There is no need to glue or put sealant on these gaskets.

No need to smother black stuff all over the front.

        Just clean it up

All that is required is a small amount in the 4 prescribed places, as per factory, grey is good.

        The gasket

Torque to 9nm, leaving the outside 4 corners till last. Do it evenly, slowly, several passes.

Hi ####, as requested, post copied over.

Off memory the replacement of bolts was from the BDG website. I can't track down the link, it might have been through the recent videos they've released. I've also seen a few ebay sellers selling bolts and cone washers as part of a fitting kit.
            https://www.ebay.com.au/p/?iid=192105729589&&&chn=ps

I googled "reusing stretch bolts". Advice seems to suggest not re-using.

What do you recommend? Has have heard of bolts shear on installation or removal?

            Thanks,

Probably more of a question to go into the Injectors tech tips thread, rather than the service thread.
If you could duplicate your post over there & also add where you read that, I will have the answer for you.

In advance, you could be reading from a diesel workshop website who does a lot of markets & posts, often with wrong information, I look forward to you telling us where you read it, over there in your question.

              ####.
So when you googled, where is the advice which says not to re-use them???

Head bolts are stretch bolts, single use.

Im not sure Injector clamp bolts are stretch bolts, who said they are???

It is not gsic / Toyota procedure to replace the bolts, I have never needed to or done so.

Just watch what you find in the net, things like how to do injectors guides can be quite misleading,

This one for example mentions stretch bolts, it's the only place I have heard or read it.
              http://www.baileysdiesel.com/wp-cont...-ftv-rev-2.pdf
All those torque setting are wrong, I have informed their lawyers of this.
The above guide makes it look easy. I suggest you use a Toyota workshop manual.

Link suggesting better to use new bolts. Note this is for torque to yield stretch bolts used for heads. I have no idea if injector bolts are torqued to yield. I assume they are given they are stretch bolts and not normal bolts.

I'm not suggesting reusing bolts is an issue, just curious for when I need to order my next set of injectors and associated parts. The bolts are pretty cheap so I wouldn't have an issue paying for them if needed.

I think you will find the fact to be they are not stretch or tty. If they were gsic would say single use only.

Yes always use new head bolts, as mentioned already.

Who said they are stretch bolts?

If they are over tightened they might become stretch bolts lol.....

30011 are what Toyota are current supplying.
