Fuel Additive?

Just wanted to seek thoughts/views on fuel additives that some are using out there?
I hear there are some that are good for fungi/algae in the tank/lines and some that help (?) and lubricate the fuel Injection system.....

Not sure how accurate the claims are so wanted to simply seek thoughts and recommendations from the forum what might be a good overall additive or ones specific for the task

I've been wondering how such a small volume of fluid claims to increase the cetane rating so much?

There are so many different options out there - from reducing or breaking up the algae in the fuel tanks/lines, to products that break up water and also products that claim to help lubricate the fuel injection system

Seem to be plenty of options but what actually work and not a waste of money?

Ive had a recommendation of Fuel Doctor by a reputable Diesel Shop, but read varying reports. Then there are the numerous fuel additives at the auto shops claiming to do a variety of jobs.

Thoughts?

Got BP to send me the Data sheets for both Regular Diesel and Ultimate Diesel Both are about the same . Ultimate has all the secret herbs and spices added at 20cents a litre more. The BP rep said it has all the additives you need. I even checked out the tanker delivering the fuel and it did come out off different named tanks. Don't know about the refinery???

I only use Diesel power additive when travelling and storing fuel in Jerry cans. My in-laws use fuel doctor in their big boat and it does a great job at maintaining the fuel in a usable state and preventing algae in such a harsh environment.

I like the BP fuel due to the low frothing element (one of the claimed benefits of ultimate), I can use fast fill all the way to the top and not have to wait too long (1 or 2 secs) for the bubbles to go down.

When I bought my 2012 150 diesel with 90,000km on the clock it had very noticeable injector rattle when the engine was cold. Got them checked and one of them was reading just under 2. Started using CRD Fuel Enhancer from Cost Effective Maintenance and within a couple of hundred kilometres the cold rattle had disappeared so I think it certainly does what they claim and would recommend it.

They also said don't bother running Cleanpower at the same time as the CRD Fuel Enhancer is doing the same thing but is more concentrated with added lubricity.

I use Chemtech Diesel Power which i get for under $30 litre when on sale which treats 1,000 litres of fuel and just add it ever second fill up. It claims to:

Contains an upper cylinder lubricant which helps combat low sulphur fuels
Added biocide prevents & kills algae & bacteria in fuel lines & storage tanks
Concentrated & economical (1 litre treats up to 1000 litres of fuel)
Improves fuel economy & boosts engine performance
Reduces diesel smoke
Dispenses & absorbs moisture in the fuel allowing it to be harmlessly burnt off
Cleans injectors & fuel lines, prolonging filter life
Dissolves gums, varnish & wax build up in fuel systems

I mainly use it for the biocide and to ensure no bacteria growth occurs, but i also get slightly better fuel economy according to the scanguage and the engine runs very smooth so i'm happy with it.
