  • Rattle in rear area - Door?

    Hello

Is it common for the 150 to have interior rattles in the rear? I am pretty sure it is comming from the rear door

    Is this common?

Does anyone know where they are comming from and how to fix?

I hate rattle noises and it is starting to get to me

    Thank you for you help

In our 2002 GXL we had one that I could'nt find untill I got into the rear while travelling. Turned out to be the stop light housing at the top of the rear window. Dismantled & a little sikaflex no more rattle.

Do you have a Toyota cargo barrier? I do and found the rattle in the rear was the bracket behind the trim on the drivers side was rattling against the side of the car. I bit of felt tape and now no rattles in the rear (or the rest of the car) .

        Cheers, Sam.

Possible fix to 150 series rear door rattle

              Hi,

My 150 series has a rattle in the rear when travelling on uneven roads. I pulled out the Toyota tool kit from the rear and the found some of the tools were loose in their clips so I wrapped insulation tape around the offending tools. Fixed that but the rattle continued.

Next I opened the rear door and shook it. It appeared the door mount spoiler was rattling against the glass. The 2 mounting bolts that I could find behind the rubber plugs at the top of the door were tight so I jammed a couple of small self adhesive rubber pads under the spoiler. So far so good.

If this turns out to be fix I will raise it with Toyota at the next service.

Would be interested to know if others have had this issue and found a solution.

I had a really annoying squeeky noise coming from the rear door even on slightly bumpy bitumen roads. Took everything out of the door and the back and it still was there. I took the service manager for a ride and left it with them for the day. Turns out the rear door was chockas with dust so they cleaned it all out and sealed up again - no squeeking since! Car is pressure cleaned and vacumed regularly but somehow dust found its way into the door.

150 GXL Auto petrol, 25000k's, 80% dirt roads and off road not a rattle. Drive a Discovery same km's and let us know about rattles. Thats why we buy Toyotas.

I was having issues with a rattle in the back and found that the jack had wound itself down a bit when stored and was no longer stored securely.

It was the telescopic lock arm on the bottom of the back door that caused our rattle.Have placed a rubber door stop ( the graded height type ,about 4ins long & about 1in high on one end)on the top of the rear bumper so the arm actually rests on the stopper when closed. May have to get in the back & close the door to make sure the arm just sits on the door stop

                        Stabilus Dorstop issue

                        Hi Brent.nass,
Your post was some time ago however I have torn my hair out trying to find the problem with my 2013 Prado Altitude, rear door rattle, and have finally found the problem which may help others with this issue. Its the ball joint on the rear door strut which has a poor tolerance (after 25,000km from new vehicle). The small movements between the vehicle and door transfer through the lockable "Stabilus Dorstop" strut via the ball joint (door attachment bracket). It almost sounds like the door wants to fall off during bumpy or undulating highway driving. I am going back to Toyota for a new one - this ball joint looseness should not be present at such an early stage. Regards, Steve

I found this strut to be the culprit also, however have not bothered to replace it due to my 2010 GXL being out of warranty. I'd be interested to hear whether Toyota will replace yours and if it actually fixes the issue.

The same issue is developing on our MY14 GX at 10'km. Noticed a rattle on and off several times in the past but now after some longish bumpy gravel travel it is persistent. Sat in the boot for a test drive to locate the noise. It sounds like it is coming from the lower 'inside' of the door on the drivers side. Nudging the closed door while in park produce similar noises. The car goes in for it's first service tomorrow and I will raise the issue with Toyota.
