  • 150 vs 120 diesel (GXLs)

This subject could have been done to death in some past threads so sorry moderators ...

I've done around 2,000km in the 150 and it is an impressive machine. Seems a bit more speed off the lights and fuel economy is a lot better currently averaging 8.5l/100 (the 120 was around 9.7) - as it settles in this should improve a little more. A few more gadgets to get used to like simply locking and unlocking doors in the new key-less world. Seats are better and steering more precise with less body roll. No off-road yet. Rear camera is nice but yet to try it on hooking up the boat! Internal lights everywhere. More "industrial" finish on the inner doors and this suits me better. The driver's mirror gives a really good view of the blind spot on the back right corner so this is a big plus in driving safety. The kids love the roomier back seats (but they do encroach on cargo space when pushed all the way back). Insurance is $120 cheaper than the 120 series even though the replacement value is 50% more - a very pleasant surprise - a cheque is in the mail from insurer.

A couple of things that bug me ... the loss of cargo space with the rear seats now permanently attached and stored - this is a biggy for me but I knew what I was buying. The 30l smaller fuel tank although offset somewhat with the better consumption figures thus far. The data on the trip screen is the same as the almost unreadable data on the odometer area - the dashboard was not tested with polarised sunnies as some stuff is really difficult to read. Still nowhere to put a smartphone even though ipod connectivity is a feature. Struggling to get used to the centre console which has two lids - don't know what the "thin section" is for except to reduce the bin size and give me 2 unlock points and I always grab the wrong one.

The 120 was a great car (I had 3 of them and 2 x 90s) and if the 150 can do better I will be very happy.
