How? Do they suddenly not have leaf springs or drum brakes on newhilux.net?

One of my mates and work colleagues has a Hilux Diesel manual, he is currently travelling around OZ towing a van. We have had the Hilux vs Prado debate over a beer a few times. They have three kids between 10 and 5 and love their Hilux. I got two 4 and 6 years old. The dual cab arrangement and the canopy on the back works for them. Plenty of room to just chuck stuff in the back. I have driven his car when we went on a boys fishing trip.

But they have never owned a Prado, so it can also come down to what you get used to. There is no question that the Prado is the more comfortable and refined car, its better as a 4wd and as a road car due to the electronic smarts, better auto and better suspension. Its a great office. The electronic smarts and airbags make its safer and its a more refined better finished vehicle.

Extra fuel range, better auto and all that stuff aside, it all becomes irrelevant when kids jump in with mud or sand covered feet.
The question should become is the Hilux good enough if you are more into roughing it?
Is the Prado almost too good to get covered in sand mud inside and out?
The Hilux will get to the same places its just a bit rougher and might need a few more run ups, but scratches and dints don`t hurt as much as they do on the Prado.

I love the Hilux and if its was just my decision and not the wife`s I would have one or some other dual cab ute, my main gripe with the Hilux and other dual cap utes is that compared to all that you get in a Prado they are all about 10000 over priced. They are getting better all the time, but its obvious they are still tarted up farm trucks, but sometimes its all I want.
stepped up the a 200 LC for towing,
but had a 2012 and 2010 150 Prado GXL auto diesel in Graphite with Bridgestone D697 A/T. Dobinson C59-300/325 and Bilsteins. Accessories : two baby seats. Sidewinder`s Dual Battery isolator and rear power outlet kit. Pirana Battery tray, Hayman Reese towbar with Toyota wiring kit and Brains`s guard.

No D4D the vehicle will not change in a different forum. It's just the participants have different priorities and expectations. I had a 90 series for three years and a 150 cruiser for seven. I was thinking about all the advantages of a tub out the back and did a couple of drives in a Lux and bought the Prado TD 150. I would not swap for a Hilux if they where half the price. they would still be cramped and uncomfortable and nearly impossable to park in a shopping centre.

You don't read new Hilux obviously http://www.newhilux.net/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=9050

Then there are the 3' lift kits off the shelf, 33's, Monster ride flares for super sized rubber................... Plenty of reasons to go for a Lux, just depends on what floate=s your boat.

          Cheers Andrew

Need a login for that AJ, agreed you can weld anything on anything but I prefer to stay legal these days, too much to lose.

Did I mention how looong the dual cabs are. Try getting one of those around the switchbacks on Billy Goat Bluff...

It wouldn't be the first time I've been accused of being a bit dim, but for the life of me I can't seem to find any threads on what owners have paid for their 150s. Is anyone able to shed some light or direction?

              Cheers,

The Roo, your accessory list has pretty much mirrored my wish list, including the white GXL (mostly due to non-metallic white). That stated, at risk of going off topic, does the pearl white on the VX/Kakadu scratch more easily or is it just that it's more difficult to to buff out/touch up? Admittedly, I've contemplated the VX purely for the KDSS which is not an option on the GXL (I would imagine this may become an option in future updates of the GXL). Would a decent lift on the GXL bring the handling in line with a KDSS fitted model?

The current July 2012 4x4 Australia mag has a Prado v Hilux comparo. Interesting read, the Prado "rides and handles better, is safer, more comfortable, and more capable off-road than the HiLux."
