  • 2.8 Idling vibration at the lights..... HELP

    Hi Team,

    I have a 2.8 with 25,000km and i am finding the following problem,

    In Drive at the lights with the AC OFF the idle is 650 RPM and there is a resonation in the cabin, as soon as the AC kicks in the RPM rises to 750RPM and the issue goes away ( smooths out ). I have had it to Big Rock and they reackon theres nothing wrong, they tested it out the back and when the bought it out they wern't interested to look into it or check it with em in the vehicle.

    It is becoming unbearable, at the lights i have to knock it into N to stop it rumbling.


    Also when in drive at 70 - 80km it drops into OVERDRIVE, and there is an annoying rumbling through the cabin once again, could these be linked, and has anyone else had this issue reported to Toyota.

    Were at the point of selling it if it cant be resolved............... begining to think upgrading from our 120 series was a bad move.

    Hi retro,

    I am in Perth if you want to compare and see if its normal. Other option would be to take it to a dealer and ask to borrow one of the loan 150 series and see if its the same. Send me a private msg if you want to compare.

      Sounds like something is not right. I get a few idling variances (about 700 normal but sometimes 900-1100 if DPF is trying to clear). I tend to leave my AC on all the time (auto) but have never had very rough idling apart from a bit more noise when cold.

        If it was a 120 I'd say one or both engine mounts.

        Does the idle speed slow down?

          Hi OZ, i have just videoed a workmates 2016 Pread - Auto 2.8 - it idles from 700 to 800 with the AC cycling ON and OFF, which is what i would expect.
          Mine idles from 650 to 750 with the AC cycling ON and OFF, which is when the harmonic starts, when it is doing a DPF burn it is 900. I have it booked back with Big Rock toyota as i raised a Technical ticket with Toyota Australia.

          They are now investigating engine mounts, but i am going to review the video with them of my workmates vehicle to assist in coming to a resolution.

            can you post the video. i am experiencing something similar and have been told by toyota dealer that its normal. WHen i am stoped at lights i feel a slight vibration through the doors and centre console up to the drivers seat when the engine is warmed up.

              I rang toyota in melbourne 1800 number, go thru the automated menu untill you get to talk to an advisor, explain your case and where you eent and the responce, they will contact the service center you went to and call you back to once again try and fob you off. Tell them you have compared it with another and youare disputing either the idle speed or the engine mounts, 120 series had a big problem with them as did my previous vehicle. A video wont show you the problem, but it sounds like you have it also........ makes you feel ill if you get stuck in traffic, i have to out mine in neutral when stopped.

                Hi

                I am now experiencing the same with my 2010 150 GXL D4D 95K on the clock. The whole interior vibrates and u can fee it through the steering. Took it to the local Toyota dealer and they say it is normal for a the D4D. I say Rubbish. I asked them to check the engine mounts. Supposed all okay.

                Does anyone know if there is another way to check engine mounts or are there other workshops independent of Toyota that can check this. Happy to pay for a report and take it back to Toyota to fix under warranty

                  They have an active engine mount that is vacuum/air assisted. There is a test to see if they have failed but I cant recall how, dont think techstream at home worked though.
