Ps. Check out xdaforums for guys that love to tinker. You'll have to read between the lines as different head units vary. They are electronics and android nerds with a wealth of info. You will need to search extensively before you post :-)

Heres the thread that made me think about getting the xtrons.

      Hi
The Dasaita model I bought is https://www.aliexpress.com/store/pro...6a08512dsWI3nt. Not sure what is out there for or the dash shape of a 2007 model.

And I have been to xda forums. But my brain hurts going through it! So far the standard OS is good for me; it is a car after all for driving!! And am still deciding on Malaysk ROM.

thanks Gerry, there's a sale on a Kenwood I was looking at, so I've decided to not risk the potential issues with the Chinese one...next one I buy will probably be an Android.

Has anyone tried fitting this to a 2010 model GXL? i'm wondering if it would fit as i can see it says for 2014,15 & 16 models. Is the dash that different?

I previously had an android unit and decided to move to a Pioneer unit that does android auto and added the AdvancedICE GPS module. Biggest plus is the sound quality...just no comparison and this is really important to me. Cost and features wise the Android units definitely come out in front.

Did you keep the 6-disc changer unit after you replaced the head unit?

Installation was pretty straightforward. I followed these instructions on removing the existing head unit:
                https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ydLhwJf7mFc
And then matched up the connectors to the wiring loom supplied. All up approx 3 hours, but to do it again probably half that time. I ran the GPS and microphone up the side of the drivers pillar and was able to get reception from inside my garage. I ran the antenna for the DAB+ up the passengers side pillar and stuck it to the top left corner of the windscreen. It was great to see all the DAB+ channels propagate the app. Still a learning curve on the system.
The total cost was $524.57 and delivery took less than a week. I have been is contact with the seller about updated maps and the password to access the CANBUS system (change door indicator over) and they have been very helpful. I cannot locate the SD Card slot (have my doubts there is one) but easy enough to update the maps through the Android system.
Reverse camera, steering wheel integration, USB slots (had a 64GB USB card plugged into the USB slot next to the hand brake and it picked that up with all my music on it) all worked first time.
All in all, I am well pleased with the system and am looking forward to installing either Hemma or Oziexplorer, Wikicamps and whatever takes my fancy onto the Android system.

                  Hi All,

This is a very informative thread and I thought my upcoming experience will be relevant.

I've just ordered one of these,

                  https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4001...40c84c4dAfbZAj

Looks to have an updated screen at "HD IPS 1280*720"

As it arrives and I install it I'll add updates.

It's arrived, I'll install Saturday, looks good, appears well made.
There's a heap of cables, more than I expected for a "plug and play".

Looking forward to getting it done.

Instructions are not exactly comprehensive, this is the total of the included install instructions.

                      Usage instructions are quite detailed.

                          Thanks mrmole85

Does anyone know how to remove the trim on the 2018 version?

I've looked online but can only find the earlier models.

                          Any help appreciated.

Not exactly, but check out page 6 of this manual, it might give you an idea:

                            https://toyotamanuals.com.au/afi/PZQ...ber=PZQ5960140

Trim removal tools may come in handy. I went through this went I installed the toyota wiring harness for driving lamps; which had me pull most of the inside of the car apart. I skipped pulling out the head unit completely though as I could just feed the cable behind it. I have the same 2018 gxl model.

Ok, well not the success I was hoping for.

The standard unit comes out fairly easily, no great issue there.

The wiring of the new unit looks more daunting than it is, plugged it all in. Everything works as it should.

                              The Good,

Screen is very good quality, easy to see in sunlight and clear, better than the original in my opinion.
Radio, phone, handsfree, nav, google voice command, touch screen, reverse camera all work very well.
I ran many different voice commands using Google Assistant all were letter perfect except one. One of the voice to text commands was "hey check this out, hands free texting". The system came up with "hey chick this out, hands free texting". Second go was perfect. Far better than I experience with the Toyota unit.
In every way I could see the unit is equal to or superior to the original.

                              All good so far,....................

                              The bad,

The interface wasn't what I'd hoped for, I'd expected the 8 or so app's you see on VW's, KIA's etc to come up and simply touch and go. Screen mirroring.
Sadly, no. It was a bit more complicated, it started with a busy home screen then you had to work through from there.
Not ideal, I believe it is customisable but that's not what I'm looking for.
The Dasaita unit does not use the Toyota microphone nor GPS antenna, I had to run new ones, again, not ideal but I installed them.
By now I'm not feeling the "plug and play".

Still decided to finish install and try it for a couple of weeks and see if I could live with it or customise to suit.

I fitted the original brackets, remembering the instructions, "Install the navigation system in right position and then screw the bracket of the original car to fix well".

The holes in the side of the unit do not line up, the original bracket has three holes per side and two locating dimples, when installed to the closest threaded holes in the side of the unit,

A/ no dimples to match the brackets so either drill holes into the unit or allow the bracket to make it's own dents, or flatten the original brackets.
B/ the best I could get were two of the three holes to line up, bracket needs to be drilled.
C/ when installed using the 2 that line up the unit sits too high and projects into the cab 6 or 7 mm.

All of which is doable, but difficult and fiddly. I was going to have to get the unit in place with the brackets bolted to the car but not the unit, mark it up and start drilling holes in the brackets. The problem is there's no room to do any of that, when the unit is in place I couldn't get in to mark it up.

At this point I decided I'd spent enough time on this "plug and play" unit, probably 3 hours by this stage and removed the Dasaita and reinstalled the Toyota unit, that took about half an hour.

So a long way from success, I realise that had I persisted it would have worked and probably been everything I was looking for but I just didn't have the interest level.

I'll attach some photos and am happy to answer questions if you have any.
