  • 2016 Prado issues

Hopefully this is OK in one post as I wasn't keen to start a post for each issue. Did a bit of a search but still wanted to post.

    1. Who has the 6th gear issue. My auto will not change into 6th unless I put it into cruise control. This has been looked at twice now by Toyota and they have run software updates (I think). Unfortunately the issue is still there.

    2. DPF blowing white smoke clouds during burn. Toyota did a re-gen I think it is called and software update. Car is yet to do a burn. Is this re-gen any good for the DPF?

    3. Rattle in dash at 1,500 to 1,700rpm. It's bloody annoying and has been looked at 4 times now. Every time Toyota say its fixed but as soon as I drive out of the dealership I hear it.

    4. Dust getting past filter. Dealership says to change filter more often. They clearly don't understand that the filter changing is not solving anything. Anyone know a solution.

I have been less than impressed with Toyota after coming from 2 other 4wd's that I purchased new from other makes. Any thoughts on the issues is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    Hello JohnC80,
I guess it would help if you provided a little more info, eg approx location and exact model details, that might help someone provide some more specific advice.
I recon, your experiences, by the sounds of it, are with a "Toyota Dealership"...which actually isn't the Toyota Motor Company..and all dealerships are not alike, by a long shot.
So its the dealership staff who are likely providing you with advice and "fixes" and their knowledge, experience and abilities vary widely, so much so that there are some dealerships that I WILL NOT currently take my toyota..I'm very impressed with the staff and service at the dealership that I deal with currently. I have a 2016 GX Diesel, and have never had an issue with 6th gear, I've had the DPF replaced under warranty as it was blowing white smoke, I've not had a rattle, thanks goodness, but I am looking at sealing around the join in the air filer box with some sort of tape ...but I'm going to add a snorkel first and then I'll address the air box seal. In the mean time I put a smear of rubber grease around the air filter seal in an attempt to make the air box seal better.
Anyway, if you can add some brief details, some folk might have some more info you...let us know how you get on.

      Thanks for the reply.

Car has been serviced at 4 different dealerships across the country and all have been found to say that they did something but upon checking they hadn't. This ranges from rotating tyres to changing filters.

      2016 GX.

So if the DPF is blowing white smoke did your dealership say that it is stuffed.

Yep, I've had similar experiences with some dealerships saying they have done something, and discovering it's not done. I've even found tools in the engine bay. I always do a quick check before I drive away after a service, and yes, wheel rotations, filters and so on, I always check what they say has been done.

i reported the white smoke issue, and they did a reprogram and a forced DPF burn which helped for about 20,000km, then I started leaving a smoke screen on the highway so the DPF was replaced under warranty and no more problems so far.
