ARB Bull Bar bash plate rubbing (285/70R17)

Hi guys,

I've had an ARB Deluxe Summit bar fitted to my 2018 GXL which has 285/70/R17 tyres fitted.
Prior to the bull bar fitting I had no rubbing at all, however after fitting the bull bar, the ARB bash plates that are fitted between the bar and the front edge of the tyre is rubbing on full lock (mainly in reverse).

Has anyone experienced this? What are the recommendations for fixing this? panel beaters to bend the bash plate? or strip it back and re-powder coat it.

Yes. I have the same vehicle and bullbar with 265/70/R17 wheels. On hard lock there is clearance.
But 285/70/R17 would rub on the splash plate. They might also rubbed before but against the thin plastic in the wheel arch.

Make a template, grind off the offending section and repaint. Modifying is what we are here for mate. Best part is, the part you are cutting is a relatively cheap aftermarket part. Keep us posted.

What offset are your rims. That can make or break..
fwiw, I’m running 285/70/17 on 17x8 +10 rims with arb bull bar and bash plates and I get no rubbing.

Thanks guys. They definitely didn't rub on the thin plastic prior to the splash plates being added.
However the splash plates actually protrude further out towards the tyre than the plastic did.
My rims are the FJ ones, can't remember the offset but.

I think this is what i'll have to do, however making it a clean cut and not just a square out of that offending section is going to be difficult I think.

Give it a go mate. Take your time, mark it out with a pen first then cut with a grinder. An ugly cut is cheaper then replacing tyres often. Better to just do it and get out on the trails then don't do it and be worried about it all then time. Keep us posted.
