  • Inside Water Leak HELP

    Hi all you knowledgeable folk,
My 20L water container recently leaked throughout the inside of my Prado. I've being trying to dry it out for a few days now. I've removed the couple of plugs I found under the body which are soaking wet inside. Please let me know how to dry it out. I'm worried about rust and the smell is super bad. Thanks!

Short of taking the seats out so you can get the carpets out to dry them, remove the plastic door sills and lift the carpets and hit with fan heaters. Watch for fire! Option one the best.

Pull the seats, its not hard.. Conole up and carpet out is best option.. Otherwise you can peel carpet back on one side and dry it over a few days.. then do the other. Fans will help to speed it up, i'd avoid using too much heat, airflow will work.

For the smell try Nilodor from coles. One drop will do

Decades ago, I had leaky car. If you can get carpets lifted a bit or more the better, and doors and/or windows open and park the car in a sunny place. Though ventilation seems to be the most important factor.

For odour, try some of what is shown in the pic. It works well on pet bedding odours. I think it was purchased at Bunnings.

If you don't want to remove the carpet:

If its still soaking wet, try lots of newspaper. Newspaper is pretty good at soaking up water/moisture.
When just moist, lots of salt will absorb more (then vacuum off).
After that you'll just have to air it out.

Thanks all! The seats and carpet are out and I'll have it dry soon. There was so much water that the effort was unavoidable. Really appreciate the advice

This may be of some assistance
I had a leak in my old 80 series and the following is part of what I posted on another forum back in 2006

Background is that I have been down the stikaflex path, followed by removal and refitting of windscreen, without success.
It was only today that with the use of a fire hose we were able to pinpoint that the problem is most likely in the rubber.
After a through hosing, when the rubber was pressed in from the outside in the area where water was daming up outside , it squirted water back inside the rubber and onto floor.

Having fitted a new genuine rubber it continued to leak, and this had followed 2 replacement windscreens and numerous resealing by so called experts.

On trip to Broome we ran into a small shower at Barn Hill station and the leaking was still there.
Fortunately, it did not rain again until I was at Emerald in
Queensland, and it started to rain again big time.
A minor flood resulted and I had to remove the plug in floor to let water out.
                Went to local
Toyota dealer but they could not help and referred me to local windscreen repair (Protector I think ).
Usual promise of I will fix it, which I had heard from every one of the previous repairers.
Said I was used to this but this guy said he had an 80 series and knew what to do.
After he had started he called me into workshop and showed me that there was no sealant on the underneath part of rubber at top of screen.
I said but that water does not run uphill and his reply was that" you would be surprised where it runs"
Anyway to cut a long story short I paid the $99 and have been through 8inches in one night and 28 inches over 3 days and not a sign of a leak.
So for what its worth check to see if yours is sealed on bottom side at the top.
