Gday Gents.. Long time stalker first time poster! Appreciate all the knowledge on here which has pulled me out of a pickle more than once!
Just a real quick heads up. I'm not sure if this is allowed as the forum rules page isn't found, but I'm sure admin will remove if necessary.

I recently replaced my injectors in my 1KD with some "Genuine Denso" injectors purchased from eBay.. yeah I know..smh! These claimed to be "Genuine Denso" from a diesel expert with over 30 years experience. Initially the car performed great, until recently. I have since had 3 out of 4 injectors fail causing those 3 of the cylinders to crack resulting in a new engine. These were NOT cheap and paid a premium for them thinking they were genuine and offered a 12 month manufacturers warranty, but highly likely they were a cheap Chinese knock off. 8K later and here I am. As you can expect, I have tried contacting said seller and nothing but crickets! Any advice on how to proceed to try and get some compensation? Diesel-Assist or Injector Express... Steer clear! Hope you have a better day than me..

    Cheers lads

Name the seller.. I suspect I know who it is.. And not surprised in the least.

Put in an Ebay claim, Paypal give you a certain time to claim back. Bar that, do a Civil claim. Report to ACCC. Report to Denso for counterfeit products.

Seller is mentioned above Piggy.. I've done all you've suggested and all have wiped their hands and don't want to know about it apart from ACCC which I'm sure I wont hear from anyway. Just a heads up for all the members here

Sorry to hear about your experience Tubs - thanks for the heads up, and I hope you manage to have some luck with compensation, or at least in causing some grief for that seller.

Civil claim is your next step then. You will sadly however find yourself in a minefield as its well know the 1KD likes to eat it s own piston, injectors replaced or not. So proving the seller is at fault will be a difficult one overall . Also would want to be VERY SURE that you are talking they are definitely a fake Denso injector. As if they are proven to not be, this civil claim could be a very costly exercise for you if the seller decides to counterclaim.

There's some data and info now also floating around as well, that some "mechanics" are trumping up the injector issues, in an avenue to line their pockets with unsuspecting 1KD owners buying their injector kits and treating them as a "prado guru"....Its a case of buyer beware out there sadly with these types in the world.. Bottom line is it seems all D4D are slowly ticking time bombs and its luck of the draw who is next. Towing and tuning/chips raises your chance of it melting down quicker.

Quick update.. Looks as though my insurance is going to cover the damages. Fuel test showed severely contaminated diesel (See Photo) which is covered! Bout time I had a win. Its not in concrete yet but looking likely!!!

Lucky. Looks like water in the diesel. Is there a fuel filter/water trap fitted?

So ultimately, the injectors were stuffed due to water in fuel. Are they still cheap knockoff injectors though?

I would expect that even genuine Toyota injectors would fail when subjected to water contaminated fuel.

I ummed and arred about replacing injectors at 10 years, 200ks. In the end, I bit the bullet because I intend to keep the car and pass it on to my son. Also, do a lot of remote driving and really didn't want to be wondering. It's really hard to know what the right thing to do is, my mate is at 300k with no problems.

Got it done by a Perth Toyota specialist, TLC. Unfortunately became a big job as the radiator also had a cracked hose connector.

Interesting, even though my old injectors were in spec on tech stream, they are now much quieter and using about 10% less fuel.

Whether the injectors were faulty or were leaking is unknown. Been in contact with Denso who are very keen to investigate further. I just need to supply them with a serial number off the side when I get them back. I have religiously changed the main filter under the bonnet every 30,000 but haven't even put eyes on the one off the tank, things you learn huh . Mechanic said regardless, a brand new set of filters couldn't have handled that amount of contamination. Its all still in the process, but 5 weeks down and still no car. Bummed

Mine was using more diesel than it used to being the reason I changed them. Initially.. better power, quieter/smoother and a lot better fuel economy, until the bang. Fuel economy over the last 5 weeks has been sensational though LOL

An update for anyone concerned.. My insurance come to the party and covered the entire cost of the engine replacement. It was a bit of a process and we were without a car for two months but definitely worth the hassle. Woolworths insurance.... Who would have thought

Any idea where you picked up the contaminated fuel and how long does it take to kill the engine?

I'm concerned I may have contaminated fuel as about 3 weeks ago filled up at a very small garage and after driving 100m away these fuel warnings came up on dash. I think it was flashing fuel gauge and warning light. Pulled over, turned off and cleared after starting.

Hasn't been running as smoothly since. Like a vibration under acceleration.
