High Pitch Rotational Whining Noise 2018 GX

Hi,

I've been having an issue for about a year now with an intermittent whining noise coming from my 2018 GX. Sound rotational and comes from the front half of the car. It happens both under breaking and acceleration between the speeds of 20-80km/h. Been to Toyota several times and they have tried a few things (some random) but the issue persists. First they thought it was the propeller shaft needing lubrication. Next the thought it was the DPF. Then Brakes. Then a guard on my rear suspension. But none of this has fixed the issue.

Has anyone experienced anything similar? Or know anything I should ask Toyota to look at.

It's crazy to me that that they can't diagnose an issue with a new car and even crazier that a new car with less than 30k on the clock has been having an issue like this.

I have the same issue I was
told it was the exhaust gasket/donut had that replaced and still have the same problem mine also only seems to happens after 20min of driving on hot days

Yeah they replaced that on mine when they did the DPF, but no luck. Car was in Toyota today. They think it is the front left brake. Something heating up and expanding. Which is why its worse on hot days/summer. They have been able to replicate the issue with a lot of hard breaking. Prado goes back to Toyota next week and they are going to machine the brakes and see if that fixes it. Will update the thread once I get it back and have taken it for a spin but it could be worth a try for you. I know this noise has been driving me nuts.

This sounds like what I have too. I also have a 2018 GX too. I’m pretty sure my sound is coming from the front left wheel. It is very intermittent, as such I haven’t done anything about it. I’ve been assuming something stuck in the brake guard bit - whatever that is called. It’ll be interesting to see how you go.

So according to Toyota the brakes were glazed. Apparently from excessive heavy braking. They machined them and haven't been able to replicate the noise. So I'll keep an eye on it and fingers crossed.

Got a week an a half of peace but the noise came back today. Exact same. So can't have had anything to do with galzed brakes. Will speak with Toyota again on Monday.
