  • HELP - Kakadu headlight error after lift

    Hi,

Hoping somebody can help me out as doing a 10,000 road trip in 5 weeks and need to get this resolved in the next 2-3 weeks.

    2015 Kakadu.
Just had a 2 inch lift kit installed.
    Dobinson coils front.
Dobinson coil conversion kit in the rear with Airbag Man to assist.
Dobinsons MRA remote reservoir shocks front and rear.

The installer had to remove the factory air suspension sensors in the rear to fit the shock reservoir as this is where the supplied Dobinsons brackets go.

Now I have 2 error messages:
Check Suspension System and Check Headlight System.

Plugging the sensors back (without reinstalling them) in fixes the Check Suspension System error but I can’t find a way to fix the Check Headlight Error.

Is there any way to permanently clear both of these error messages and fix the headlight angle whilst still having the sensors removed?

Also, the Prado is going for 3,250 GVM upgrade certification once the suspension has been resolved.

    Thanks

The headlight issue may be an auto leveling problem. GXL and up have auto headlight leveling.
With the 2" lift the auto leveling sensor at the rear thinks that the rear has gone up, so it wants to adjust the headlights up to compensate.
It doesn't know that the front suspension is also up 2".
Either the sensor / or the leveling motors might be at the end of their travel. You'll notice that your headlights are pointing high.

Get the installer to make the necessary adjustments.

The air suspension sensors needs to go back in. You're not supposed to remove them. It is used for the headlight auto levelling as well.

TJM make an extended link for rear headlight level sensors after a lift, the suspension installers should have done this.

              I have a 2021 gxl with a 2 inch dobinson lift.
I haven’t thrown any codes but I always get flashed as people thing my high beams are on.
I bought the tjm linkage today for $40 and removed the old linkage. Played around with the original linkage it for a bit and found I could adjust it another 15mm as well as slide it up the bracket 15mm which given its location on the trailing arm should easily accommodate a 50mm lift.
This lowered the headlights about 25mm at 2m and I lowered them by another 30 via the adjusters in the engine bay.
Will see how this goes and then possibly return the tjm linkage as it’s probably not needed.
