  • Cruise control not working at lower speeds

    201711 Prado GXL 2.8L (2018 model)
Cruise control working fine at speeds of 45kmh+
Not engaging at lower speeds: Green light comes on but then cannot set a speed of say 40kmh or 30kmh
Not prevalent on turns etc, so don’t think it’s the clock spring, could be wrong…
Any ideas what to look for?

    I believe this is normal.
I can set 45km+ and it will maintain down to 40.
Below 40 it just beeps and turns off.

I have a 2019 GXL - the owners manual says cruise control will work "at or above 40km/h".

That has definitely been my experience. In fact, it's more like 45km/h and above.

OK thanks all, thought something was wrong.
A bit weird for city driving, but hey....

Yeah. My Wife's Mazda has no problem with active cruise down to 20 or even a complete stop.
I think the difference is that we have "Active Cruise Control" on the Prado. Other cars have "Stop & Go" or similar wording, which generally means their cruise will work all the way down to zero.
Ultimately ours is not made for 'city driving' I guess.

The only time it's a problem for me is in the school zones.. I'd like to just set it to 40 and forget it. But alas, still have to use the right foot. #firstworldproblems

The manual advises not to use cruise control at lower speeds or for stop start driving

It’s a safety feature that you’re unable to use it below 40kmh. The chances of slow moving traffic coming to an abrupt halt with cruise on would lead to more “nose to tail” accidents.
