  • Rear Door Table

After reading all the other posts and getting a bit of motivation I decided to give it a crack at building a rear door table.
I used 15mm MDF and carpeted one side.
The other side I covered on vinyl.
Some 50mm webbing straps & a couple of plastic hinges from BCF & job done.
It actually turned out pretty good.
    Cheers.

Attached the hinges to the inside lip of the storage compartment.
Used countersunk cap heads and a strip of alli on the under side for support.
The webbing straps were screwed to the side of the table with a piece of alli for support. I back fed the strap over the screws to try and hide them.
On the door I cut a slit (With a Stanley knife) just wide enough to get the strap through. I just folded the strap end on itself a few times and the sewed it together. (So it was too thick to pull through the slit - Hope that makes sense)

Here's some photos of my rear table install. I originally tried using nut-serts but found the plastic was not strong enough for them. So I ended up removing the whole rear door liner to enable the use of screws, nylocks, and large washers. It wasn't that difficult, just very fiddly, slow & steady wins the race...

Well that's a different looking one. Well done. Dunno bout you guys but I think it's great to see all the variations on the design of a simple table.

                    Following
doublej example, I built one myself, had most of the stuff apart from plywood lying around. Especially proud since the whole thing is eventually removable without leaving holes in the rear door. And it looks nice and stock when closed as the carpeting I found was nearly identical to the one in the trunk.

Thanks for the inspiration, can't wait to put it to use over the weekend.
