Just bought a 2010 Kakadu and have seen the fourby draw system over the rear seats. I would like my drawers to be removeable. Want to make it myself but was wondering if anyone had ideas on mounting the floor over the rear seats and where to bolt to?

Any help would be great. Thanks.

Hey Mate did you find a solution for this? I'm in the same boat with a 2011 Kakadu and am looking at making up a drawer system that can be removed easily.

Fourby Fitouts makes these https://fourbyfitouts.com.au/configu...eat-150-prado/ It has a subfloor which attaches to the luggage tracks on the back of the rear folding seats and then the drawers etc are mounted on top. They are 2k tho so i'm thinking of making my own base floor using something like this to secure it https://www.rhinorack.com/en-au/prod...-eye-bolt_s604 and either bolt some of the Titan drawers on top or build my own.

Okay fellow PPers, I have been meaning to post this for a while and thought that there may be someone out there that takes inspiration from my efforts. I have spent countless hours trawling through various threads on this great site - as well as looking at the commercial offerings. It was time to put something back into the site.

Of course like many here, I decided to take matters into my own hands because:

        1. Couldn't bear to part with major coin
        2. Wasn't 100% happy with the options out there
        3. Did not want to remove the 3rd row of seats
        4. Sheer bloody-mindedness on wanting to get it done right.

I will jump to the bottom of the page and show the final result. Then I will show the progress.

This set up is in my 2015 MY15 Vx and I love her to death. I have a dual battery setup (with a lithium battery under the hood), chip, popped in an aftermarket sunroof, TJM colour coded Outback bar with some Lightforce driving lights, and she is perfect for touring around. Done a couple of trips across the Nullarbor and up north and cannot speak more highly of the Prado's road manners and comfort (but then I am preaching to the converted)!! The lady can also be dressed up for nice nights out with friends or touring around the wineries and breweries of Margs.

Anyhoo, here is the set up. False floor levelled to sit on the existing 3rd row seats folded down, two slide outs - one for the fridge on the right (a massive Dometic CFX95) and the pull out prep table on the left. Attached to the false floor on the left, via captured nuts, two drawers on UHMWPE slides.

Okay time to roll all the way back to the start.

The problem which I lay awake many a night thinking about was - how to build a set of drawers and fridge slide out, while keeping the overall functionality intact and not drilling a single hole or removing significant kit. It also had to be removable in a reasonable time frame - less than 15 mins in and out.

Good thing that the 2015 VX has tie down channel which was going to be the anchoring points.

My fridge weighs a shitload full of food and drink and at full extension was going to exert considerable leverage on a timber floor and slide out. hmmm

So off to Bunnings for some inspiration and I found it. 1200 mm x 10 mm gal dipped steel lintel. Perfect! That was going to be the perfect anchor point for the base of my floor unit.

The front was fixed with some flat brackets (roof framing brackets I recall).

On to this I fitted a laminated beam of 15 mm glued and screwed structural ply (considered using marine ply but decided against the extra cost - would use it next time, but I don't regret not using it).

This was then leveled off to accommodate the board to sit on top.

            Some close ups:

Then I started to measure and fit the components to mount on top. I wanted to make sure that the monster fridge was going to fit with the 2nd row seats in a reasonable position, as well as optimising the space for the 2 drawers that I wanted to put on top.

The old adage is measure twice - cut once (my old man was a chippy), but some of this 3D measuring can only be done once things are in place (as you will see later).

Anyways I measured and fitted the base of the floor unit, inserted all of the captive nuts and fixed screws . . . and

With that in place, it was time to build the sliding components.

I decided to work with what I know and used timber for the subframe - if I had a welder I would have made it out of steel tube, but I was also trying to save some money and use some of the timber I have collected over the journey. Jarrah is great for strength, etc - but it is a bit on the heavy side. That said it is easier to drill and fix to timber than steel.

The key with any of these drawer projects (this is my second one after doing my 120 series) is to imagine what the functionality needs to be and make sure you accommodate for space - eg carpeting the bugger at the end - putting propeller angle to finish it off.

Impressive DIY project by Jones Cat. I'm more inclined to drop the coin, as long as it's not too much and doesn't add too much weight.

Has anyone had any experience with drawers and slides from Off Road Systems (SW Sydney)? I saw their kit at the Sydney Camping and Caravan show back in April and I thought they seemed good. Neither too cheap nor too expensive and good quality. I.e. a lot better than the cheap Kings stuff that the 4WD Supacentre sells, but not as heavy and over-built as the MSA drawers I saw at Pride.

Hi All, just installed NL 55L fridge on a top of MSA drawers and the fridge is extruding outside of car body if you look at it from the side. But the door could be closed and a top of the fridge is about 50 mm from glass window. I wonder if it is still too close to window installation - interested to hear if anyone had a similar experience.

i think it could be done, might have to rig a bracket for the slide, then bolt bracket into where factory points are
