Hi mate, I purchased a Ram mount for my iPad they also make phone mounts, they are very solid and have various mounting options. The U.S. police use Ram mount products in their patrol cars. They aren't cheap but I think they have a lifetime warranty, so you only need to by it once. You can buy them on eBay. Cheers

Goggo, cost is less of an issue, how did you mount it and where. I have tried a few mounts but found that most shakes a lot. If The ideal would be to mount something to the side of console in the middle of the dash.

I have a clic-on from hold my phone, costa a bit but there several mounting options and if you change phone you just change the cradle module. Mines for a 5s with lightening plug and goes into the usb or 12v plug to charge.

I mounted mine on the passenger side down low, but you can have several other locations, just order the clip for that mounting point and it just clips on to the trim with double sided tape to help.

I've got the iPad mini running the Hema maps app and the mount I went for was a suction cup type, but there are many options once the suction is locked on the glass you would have to smash the window to get it off, or just realise the suction lock. I had it mounted on my windscreen on a 3 week cape trip and it doesn't shake at all even on the PDR. Very solid unit. Hope this helps

I currently have the clipon /bordit solution that clips over the vent but found with my latest upgrade to the iphone 6 that vent is blocked...not a good thing for the Qld summer. I'm current looking at using the mount and fixing it on the right side of the console between the console and the steering wheel but have been unable to find a solution. A currently have a 'patch' stuck securely to the side of the console to provide flat surface for a suction cup, but as with most suction cap fittings, the connection between the suction cup and actual fitting is always a bit loose resulting in the phone shaking a lot. If i could just found a 90 degree angled bracket to fit the clipon phone holder to the applied patch, then i would not need a sucket cup holder. macfixit currently seems to have some of better quaility mounts...

I've tried pretty much every mount out there, windscreen, 12v socket, air vent... not happy with all those until I found this
              http://www.niteize.net.au/collection/steelie.asp

So you use 3m double sided tape to stick a metal ball on the dash board, just make sure you test it with your phone attached to see if the space is right.
Next another 3m tap to stick a magnet socket like thing to the back of your phone, or on your case if you are using one, then every time you just need to put your phone on to the metal ball, there you goo!

this allow you to turn your phone pretty much any angle you like, as long as there's enough room for your phone, and very easy to put on and take off.
Only down side is, you will have a very strong magnet on the back of your phone, this will not damage the phone, I had it for nearly half year. only need to be careful not stick the magnet to close to your watch and wallet.. but this is no issue to me at all.

upsides are, it will not shake or vibrate at all, and very neat, only require 1 hand to put the phone on or take it off. also with the magnet socket on the back of your phone, you could stick it to fridge while cooking.. lol, or on the metal shelf as a display in the garage while working.

I have used Brodit in my last cars with success. Buy the mount then a cheap cradle from fleabay and bingo. Job done.

                http://www.brodit.com/productList.ht...r=2014&pn=prod

I'll be ordering one for my 150.

Don't the piece stuck to the back of the phone bother you? You get other magnetic mounts that has flat metal piece that you slip into a cover that seems discreet.

Another vote for the Clic-On from me. Have had it in my FJ for about 18 months now without an issue. Also have the large iPad bracket so when I'm off road I just swap the phone mount for the iPad one so I have my maps running. Just purchased the centre vent Prado 150 version today so will see how it goes and pop up some pics once installed later this week.

OK, so got around to installing it as the new Prado is the wifes car. Pretty happy with it. The clic on frame clicks in to the top and bottom of the vent, so it is very rigid. You still have full functionality in terms of moving the vent around, only draw back being you lose the left side of it. I put it on the very left so that way the driver can still get some air.

Clic on are great, but I went the low mount option near the shifter on the passenger side, hid the cable under the trim so it looks professional. Cant stand the charge cable dropped across the dashboard. Looks blugh!

Yeah.....I know what you mean. Just seemed a bit too far out of eye line for me. I've seen more people use that one for the UHF mic mount.

The USB port position kills me in the Prado. Looks like such an after thought. In my FJ the USB is right beneath the cradle, so I got a shorter cable and although it's still not ideal at least you don't have a charge cable stretching so far across.

                              Another phone holder option

I also have the Clic-on mount but found on recent 'hot' trip to Fraser that it blocks to much of the vent. It is indeed a quality holder but I was looking for something that fits between the centre console and the steering wheel. I bought magnetic phone holder on flea bay for $6 that does exactly what I was looking for. The suction cup works with spring and can be fitted to either the top of the dash or the centre console. See the pictures below. Included is slim metal plate that you can either stick inside acase or to the back of the phone. I phone the otter case to be a bit thick to secure the phone.
