2nd battery under bonnet of Kakadu

Hi team PP,

I have searched and found plenty of interesting stories, but none that specifically addresses my question - which is this: What is the difference under the bonnet between a new Kakadu and the rest of the tribe which makes some battery trays not suitable.

More clearly I have looked up a number of battery tray suppliers who state that their tray is not suitable for the Kakadu. if anyone has a Kak and has done it that would be great to know what size battery I can go up to.

I have the current configuration set up in my 2015 VX and it is a great battery (see attached). It required only minor modification to my existing battery tray to fit. Now I am moving to a '21 Kakadu and running into some conflicting information.

Any real-world experience that peeps could share would be greatly appreciated!

I can't answer the question you asked, but I am also early in my search for a second battery for my 21 Kakadu, and the advice that I've received so far is that Lithium is better located elsewhere than under the bonnet. Yet I take it that you've be doing that without any problems?

Certain brand lithium are rated for under bonnet temps. Toyotrek sell ones that are fine under bonnets. Have them in my 200 cruiser.

Yes that is correct - have had it there for over 6 months and no issues. I have installed insulation around it as well, even though the battery dealer said it was fine without. What Piggy said is dead right, most lithium batteries are not rated for high temps such as under the bonnet. Added to that I know that the lithium will degrade a bit quicker in elevated temps, but the number of recharge cycles and full battery use will still far exceed what I could get from a standard wet cell or AGM. cheers

batteries in engine bay dont last long heat kills them. my last one lasted 3yrs...
