Iam fitting airbags to our 150, and after talking to Toyota, Iwas told that this will void my warranty in relation to any issues arising to the rear suspension. Can anyone else confirm this for me?
    Cheers

    Re: Air Bags

I have coil rite airbags on our 120 and also use a HR WDH when towing our 2200 kg Trakmaster van.
Trakmaster claimed that we should not need a weight distribution hitch but van owners suggested otherwise so I have both options.
I have tried towing with and without the WDH
With the WDH I use about 13 psi in the airbags.
Without a WDH I have tried 20 psi but experience of other owners suggests maybe 25 psi.
On the black top it is more stable with the WDH although the chains are not very tight.
If the going gets tight in the bush the WDH bars come off.
    Very much trial and error.

      Re: Air Bags

That seems rediculous that in-coil airbags would void the suspension warranty. They dontt alter the suspension at all, just help it. Are you sure they were not confused with replacing the entire spring with an airbag?

I have been towing a 1.5T Goldstream offroad van and would not do it without airbags in the coils. I was running a Treg hitch so no WDH and the airbags wwere great. I run them at 20psi.

I have just traded up to a 21' Supreme van which weighs 2.3T so I might look at adding WDH to tow this but will still use airbags as well.
      Thanks,

I spoke to Toyota direct and also to the dealer and both said the same thing.....be it right or wrong ....it is what it is.

Sorry. I didn't doubt you about what Toyota said, I just wonder what there reasoning is and how far the lack of warranty extends.
          Thanks,

The lack of warranty applies to the rear suspension only.

              Re: Air Bags

Toyota and the dealer are full of it. Manufacturers like Toyota are not the arbitrary authority on warranties. The Trade Practices Act requires them to prove that the fault was as a result of the modification. If, for example you used poly airs designed for a 2 inch lift in stock suspension which then caused the shocks to top out and die then this would not be covered - fair enough. But to put out a blanket unconditional 'void warranty' on the entire rear suspenion on the basis of helper airbags is just crap.

                Re: Air Bags

The next logical question to the dealer would be "what if I put heavier coils instead ?"

The dealers do run a very black or white sided arguement when asked on such topics, because they cant have a customer coming back saying "my dealer told me it was ok" but its how they react when an actual claim for warranty may be taken in thats the important one.

                  Re: Air Bags

I have recently been investigating this issue, my understanding is that if you make changes/additions to the vehicle and it is deemed that those changes contributed/caused the problem then they will dispute the warranty claim.

So has anyone fitted these yet?

Looking at getting some Polyair's for the rear to help keep it level when towing our Outback Sturt camper trailer.

Anyone got photos of some on a 150?

                    Cheers, Sam.

                      Re: Air Bags

My service manager has agreed to fit the airbags for me! Not sure how he'll be able to refuse a warranty claim now

Funny how opinions are so different between dealers. You'd reckon they'd all be the same.

                      Cheers, Sam.
